I have customised textpad to automatically highlight specific words in a dtrace log to aid reading it.

If you’re interested read on for Installation Instructions:
First copy the attached ev_diag.syn file locally 1. Save attachment into C:\Program Files\TextPad 5 X\system
Remove any default association with *.txt & *.log 1. Open TextPad 2. From the Configure menu, choose preferences 3. Expand document classes 4. Highlight the Text class 5. Select *.txt and click the red X to delete it. 6. Click ok
Now create a new document class: 1. Open TextPad 2. From the Configure menu, choose New Document Class 3. Document Class Name: EV_diag 4. Click next 5. Class Members: *.log,*.txt 6. Click next 7. Tick "Enable syntax highlighting" 8. Click the drop down and select ev_diag.syn 9. Click next and finish
Choose your colours !! 1. From the Configure menu, choose Preferences 2. Expand document classes 3. Expand EV_diag 4. Select Colors
Change the following items to the following colours
Brackets change to light blue Keywords 1 change to dark blue Keywords 2 change to dark green Keywords 3 change to dark red Keywords 4 change to pink Keywords 5 change to brownie/green Keywords 6 change to red
5. Click Apply 6. Highlight Font under EV_Diag document class 7. Select font style bold (this just enhances the colours) 8. Click Apply and OK
These are my choices, you can obviously play around and see what’s best for you.
Finally ……..
Open Windows Explorer and customise *.log and *.txt to automatically open with TextPad, now open a file with extension ".log or .txt" and it should be syntax highlighted !!!
And if your really really interested……. open the ev_diag.syn in textpad you’ll see entries for each of the keywords, If there are keywords missing the you can add them yourself, or let me know I’ll update mine and dish it out to everyone again.
