The Connecticut Chapter of the 99s offers this scholarship in keeping with the goals addressed in the 99s Mission statement. The scholarship is a one-time award of $1,000 and will be issued by August 1, 2007. Scholarship recipients will be required to adhere to the expectations for use.

Please read this application carefully, and be sure that you have met all the criteria and are prepared to complete all the requirements. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. The Selection Committee reserves the right to withdraw the scholarship offer in the event that they deem applicants or applications insufficient to meet the standards of the award.

 Basic Eligibility Criteria  Five Eligibility requirements 1. Be a female, holding a student or higher pilot certification. 2. Reside in the state of CT, OR if residing outside Connecticut, be sponsored by a Connecticut Chapter member. 3. Hold a current medical certificate, appropriate to the level of training sought 4. Need financial assistance to complete aviation training/education, and be able to document that need 5. Plan to make aviation a vocation, or an avocation that will contribute significantly to the 99’s mission of encouraging women to enter the world of aviation 6. Agree to complete training/education within two years of award notification. (If it is a degree granting program, an extension can be requested.)

 Requirements for Applicants – must be postmarked by 6/1/07  Five Requirements for a Completed Application 1. Fully completed application form (incomplete forms will not be returned for additional information) 2. If not a resident of Connecticut, submit a statement of sponsorship from a current Connecticut 99 member. 3. A copy of current Medical Certificate and either a Student Pilot or Pilot Certificate, whichever applies 4. Personal statement explaining your personal and professional aviation-related plans, and how the scholarship money is to be used to support those plans 5. Letters of Recommendation from at least two people who each fit one of the following (the required two letters must represent at least two of categories noted below): a) A Connecticut Chapter member of the 99’s (member more than 2 years) b) Applicant’s flight instructor c) A Supervisor/professor/employer – someone familiar with the applicants work ethic and characteristics d) A mentor, or someone familiar with the applicant’s aviation goals and activities 6. Statement of financial need – estimated expenses vs. expected income

3. Personal Statement Please attach a personal statement (include name at top of sheet) describing your reasons for requesting this scholarship. Include a description of how, why and when you became interested in flying; your goals related to aviation; and how you intend to use this scholarship. Also address how you intend to encourage other young women to develop an interest in aviation as a career or personal involvement.

4. Letters of Recommendation Please submit letters of recommendation from at least two people who each fit one of the following descriptions. The required two letters must come from two different categories noted here.  A Connecticut Chapter member of the 99s  Applicant’s flight instructor  A Supervisor/professor/employer – someone familiar with the applicants work ethic and characteristics  A mentor, or someone familiar with the applicant’s aviation goals and activities It is important that they include in their letter the length of time they have known you and in what capacity they have known you.

5. Financial Statement  List your estimated expenses for your planned aviation education or training. (Be sure to include books, materials, travel, etc. necessary to complete the training.)  List your expected sources of income (if any) and any moneys you will receive from other parties. NOTE: If additional sources of financial support for this training/education become available (e.g. other scholarships) the CT Chapter of 99s must be notified as we cannot award money where need does not exist.
