The curriculum emphasizes Air Force heritage and 29 traditions, the development of flight, applied flight sciences, 30 military aerospace policies, and space exploration; and 31 32 Whereas, the unit currently has approximately one hundred fifty 33 students enrolled and is supported by a booster club composed of 34 parents, relatives, and other friends. Operating as a separate entity, 35 the booster club helps support official AF JROTC events and 36 conducts events to help raise funds to assist the AF JROTC in 37 meeting its objectives; and 38 39 Whereas, from the year of its inception, hundreds of students have 40 participated in Irmo’s AF JROTC program, which is open to any 41 Irmo High School student in grades 912. As a result of their 42 participation in the school’s AF JROTC program, many Irmo

[4980] 2 1 graduates are currently serving in activeduty military positions 2 around the world; and 3 4 Whereas, since 2006 under the command of senior aerospace 5 science instructor Colonel Jay E. Seward II, USAF (Retired), 6 SC071 has earned for three of the past four years the Air Force 7 Association Sword of Excellence, an award that confers on its 8 winner the title of best AF JROTC unit in the State of South 9 Carolina. As Colonel Seward attests, this wellearned distinction 10 could not have been attained without the able assistance of 11 aerospace science instructor Chief Master Sergeant Steven E. 12 Turner, USAF (Retired), and Major Duan K. Sinclair, Jr., USMC 13 (Retired), the unit’s volunteer drillteam coach; and 14 15 Whereas, SC071 also has been recognized as a distinguished 16 JROTC unit each of the past twentysix years; and 17 18 Whereas, grateful for the Irmo High School AF JROTC’s fine 19 work, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in saluting 20 SC071 on its fortieth anniversary, and the members extend best 21 wishes for success in all the unit’s future endeavors. Now, 22 therefore, 23 24 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 25 26 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 27 by this resolution, honor and congratulate the Irmo High School 28 Air Force Junior ROTC on the occasion of its fortieth anniversary. 29 30 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 31 the Irmo High School Air Force Junior ROTC. 32 XX 33
