Areas of Research:

 Risk management for several commodities (Q56)  Systematics of rust fungi of agricultural importance.  Provides support in identification of rust fungi.  Resolves nomenclatural problems in rust fungi.  Host range of Soybean Rust (collecting trips to various countries: Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Panama).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 Developed interactive web-based key for identification of rusts on legumes (http://nt.ars-grin.gov/taxadescriptions/keys/LegumeRustsIndex.cfm), key for identification of rust species in the genus Ravenelia (http://nt.ars- grin.gov/taxadescriptions/keys/RaveneliaIndex.cfm), and Invasive Fungi web site (http://nt.ars-grin.gov/sbmlweb/onlineresources/fungionline.cfm).  Knowledge of plant biology and taxonomy.  Taught Plant Pathology to undergraduates and graduate students.  Coordinated workshops and symposia at international mycological congresses.  Bilingual Spanish/English with abilities also in Portuguese and Italian.  Published numerous papers in international, peer-reviewed journals (see below).  Member of National plant Protection Organization (NAPPO) citrus panel.
