Algebra 1
Week 1, Quarter 1
Baygents, Evans, Overstreet, Shirley Date: August 11- August 15, 2013
Standards:
Mississippi Frameworks
1. Understand relationships between numbers and their properties and perform operations fluently.
a. Apply properties of real numbers to simplify algebraic expressions, including polynomials. (DOK 1)
2. Understand, represent, and analyze patterns, relations, and functions. a. Solve, check, and graph multi-step linear equations and inequalities in one variable, including rational coefficients in mathematical and real-world situations. (DOK 2)
Common Core
1. Prepares for N.RN.3: Explain why and how numbers are rational or irrational
2. A.SSE.1.a: Interpret parts of an expression, such as, terms, factors, and coefficients
3. A.CED.1: Create equations and inequalities in one variable and use them to solve problems. Include equations arising from linear and quadratic functions, and simple rational and exponential functions.
Objectives:
The student will:
- Use the order of operations to evaluate expressions
- Classify real numbers
- Identify and use properties of real numbers
- Solve simple and complex equations
Plan:
Pre-bell: Integer/Order of operations review/ Equations Review
Enrichment Activity: More difficult order of operations problems
Monday: Order of Operations/Real Numbers/Properties of Real Numbers
The teacher will review integers and order of operations to refresh the students’ minds. TTW discuss real numbers. TSW create a visual representation of the set and subsets of real numbers. TTW discuss the properties of real numbers. TSW work together to complete a handout on integers and properties of real numbers. Tuesday: Equations
The students will complete an order of operations and integers quiz. (Quick formative assessment) TTW review properties of real numbers. TTW review the difference between expressions and equations. TTW introduce simple equations (one and two step equations, distributive property, variables on one and both sides) and go over the steps one needs to take to solve them. TSW have independent practice involving solving simple and complex equations.
Wednesday: Properties of Real Numbers/Equations (Continued)
TTW continue working examples of ALL different types of equations (simple and complex) TSW have independent practice involving solving simple and complex equations.
Thursday: Properties of Real Numbers/Equations (Continued)
TTW continue working examples of ALL different types of equations (simple and complex) TSW have independent practice involving solving simple and complex equations. Review for test.
Friday: Integers, Order of Operations, Real Numbers, and Equations Test/ Inequalities
TSW complete a test on Integers, Order of Operations, Real Numbers, and Equations. After the test, TTW review the difference between inequalities and equations. Homework:
Monday: Finish Worksheet
Tuesday: Finish Worksheet
Wednesday: Finish Worksheet
Thursday – Study for test
Friday – Finish Worksheet
