Nikki

o City of Greater Bendigo website: New city website launched 12 September 2016. The new website is much clearer to navigate and has less text than the previous version. Information about the  Draft Review of Plans and Youth Strategy will be placed on the Young Communities Policies Due 20 October 2016 for page however all the Youth Strategy content will be circulation to PRG posted to the YO Bendigo website for easier access. o Youth Profile:

Document has been separated into two parts. First is the Demographic Profile including population statistics and forecasts with maps and graphs showing growth areas across Greater Bendigo.

The second part is the Youth Profile. This includes topic areas that have been identified through the 2013-2016 Youth Strategy, 2014/2015 Youth Summits and the 2015 Youth Wellbeing Survey. Topic areas include:

3 . Participation in community life

 Bendigo Senior Secondary College Student Representative Council Rory, Dan, Georgie met with BSSC SRC on 9 September 2016 to invite members to become part of the Youth Strategy PRG. Students have yet to confirm their attendance at the PRG meetings. However the November meeting is being held at 4pm to allow students to attend after school if they can.

The Youth Team have offered assistance in planning events such as the school formal as a way to build relationships with the SRC.

. Two guest speakers, Jake Edwards from Outside the Locker Room and Erin Ryan from 3BO FM.  Andrew Quek will attend La Trobe session Mon 10 Oct at The summary of analysis showed young people are recommending 4.30pm ideas/programs that build on similar programs being delivered by the City with some new approaches and suggestions for improvements. Action: Rory

For example having:

 Improved social media presence,  Youth and Agency Surveys  Creating new avenues for participation around dialogue with the City and advocacy and hearing young people’s voices. For example there was a suggestion to have a Youth Council would be a more developed and formal version of the current  Design invitation Youth Action Group or lead to participatory forums like a Nikki/Georgie/Rory Young People’s Panel focussed on particular issues or Citizen  Invite to be sent out before the Jury, end of the week 30 September 2016.  Contact via visiting schools, Nikki  Invite list sent to PRG to see if  Supporting young people to run events, there are any additional invites to be made.

 Skills workshops.

. Survey will be sent out through PRG members and their networks and link posted on YO Bendigo.

Note –The City is currently researching the effectiveness of its communications and promotions. Peter Hargreaves from Executive Office has asked for a small forum of young people to talk about their views concerning the City’s communications.

Notes – YACVic and the Office for Youth are holding a series of Youth Forums focusing on Turning Ideas into Action across Victoria between now and the end of the year. The Minister for Youth has identified Bendigo as a site for one of these forums and we would like to work with the City of Greater Bendigo to co-host the forum with us if possible? There are two parts of this event – a 2 hour free sector training in Co-design from the office for youth to take place in the afternoon, and a 2 hour workshop with young people in the early evening facilitated by YACVic focusing on local issues and youth action.

4 Discussion and Milestones:  Discussion – Citizen Jury will present report to the Council Forum 5 October 2016. Unsure at this time if the Jury’s report will be made public. Then there will be a Council Report about the Citizen Jury going to the next Council meeting. Nikki/David/Wendy/PRG  Milestones  20 October - Draft reports ready eg Youth Profile/ Demographic Profile, Review of Plans and Policies, Benchmarking with other local governments and Service mapping and circulated for next PRG.  3 November PRG – Meeting to discuss the outcomes of the stakeholder engagement activities, to discuss priority areas for inclusion in the draft strategy and draft reports  November – Wendy on leave as of the 4 November  December – Draft report submitted to PRG for

11 consideration  Dec 2016/Jan 2017 – Draft report discussed by PRG and edited  February/March – Draft finalised ready for presentation to relevant City Director and Managers. Title of Strategy confirmed.  April – Present report to Councillors  May – Period of public exhibition. Could be 4 -6 weeks where Draft Youth Strategy is open for formal public comment and feedback. Likely to hold a consultation event during this time with young people. Eg Panel  June – Report to Council on public comments, submissions  July – Present final Youth Strategy to Council for endorsement and launch. 5 Next meeting: 4-5.45pm, 3 November 2016 Green Room, 45 Mundy – later meeting to accommodate students that may like to attend.
