Developmental And Readiness Education (DARE) Taskforce Meeting Minutes

Review agenda and minutes from last meeting  Minutes: Approved. Agenda: Approved. II. Spring activities and future DARE activities - Lorrie  BSI Summit – organizing a resource fair for faculty and staff that may include o Best practices for developmental education o Existing opportunities for DARE on campus  Bring back inquiry groups to DARE  Someone from DARE could go to counseling meeting and share about DARE  We should have more counselors on DARE  Come up with some ideas that can excite the counselors and ask for their participation  Customizable quick orientation packages are available and that could be something to share  Starfish - Early Alert system as an institution  Current status of starfish - the core group needs faculty to represent instruction and trying to get a common meeting time has been a challenge  Starfish is a district wide effort and could start as a pilot at De Anza  Possible projects for DARE this spring Technology enhancements in different areas  Providing a nudge for students for eg. phone text reminders  A video tool on how to pick classes, how to register for classes  Making the existing technology enhancements reliable for faculty  Technology that could help a student see their grades every day or immediately on a test  Create a team to support - 3 faculty from LA and 2-3 Basic skills faculty from Math  Offer workshop(s) to train students on technology enhancements  Take the technology to Division meetings o Opportunities in the area of change to Canvas for developmental classes  Have some pilots to have a Canvas system in developmental classes  Have a quick orientation for Canvas in the Basic skills classes  Having a community shell for groups like SSC  Use Canvas as a tool to help students stay organized in a face to face class Calendar impacts and support for Basic Skills students  To get EOPS students ready for Fall quarter - Registration July 6  DARE could collect information on the dates and the timeline for students
