Minutes of the Executive Board Meeting October 19, 2006 Kate’s home

Attending: Norma Briggs, Kate Deck, Carol Hassemer, Katy Holmer, Lynn Litterer, Nancy McClements, Dyan Steenport

1. Agenda revisions: Added RSCDS handbook and Nancy’s facebook 2. Minutes of September 21, 2006: Approved 3. President’s report: a. Muir Branch – meetings, “committee of management” status, funds i. Did not meet ii. Nov. 9 tentative meeting date b. RSCDS handbook: i. Secretary will write on behalf of group requesting that handbook be made available on the web. ii. Group should buy 1 copy of correct version for teachers-in-training: Dyan will purchase at TAC website. c. Facebook i. Social network within colleges ii. Nancy has a page iii. May help increase awareness of group 4. VP report: a. See ball 5. Treasurer’s report: a. Separating funds of Muir/MSCD i. Group needs to decide how to divide membership dues because virtually all of Muir dues go to Scotland. Consider having a checkbox on membership form that allows $5 of an individual’s MSCD dues to support Muir branch activities. ii. Muir branch doesn’t have a bank account but funds can be tracked on paper by treasurer and membership coordinator. b. Mutual fund i. Dyan has website and PIN and will get monthly statement ii. Charlie had signed off but Scott hadn’t signed on 6. Secretary’s report: Nothing new to report. 7. Membership: a. Badge/magnet update: Design modified from badge used for 2006 ball: Lynn has ordered 3 packs of 75 magnets each. b. Memberships 06/07: Two renewals as of 10/19. Out-of-town members notified of renewal drive by email. Nancy will update website with renewal form. 8. Publicity report: a. Draft flyer for December dance. Wondered if there is live music. Norma will check with Mike and notify Katy. 9. Teacher’s report: a. Winter program deviser: Mike and Janice want to do winter program but Norma has not spoken to Chuck. As a courtesy it should be offered to Chuck. Lynn suggested we might want to include a few dances from the Twin Cities Failte Ball on our winter program. b. Briefings practice: Nancy found website for how to brief a dance and could link it to MSCD website. Norma said people who are thinking about teaching should practice briefing dances and critique each other. c. For prospective teachers: We need to check on how long one needs to be a member of RSCDS before taking first written exam. TAC is in Vancouver next year. 10. Ball: a. Draft policy on reduced rates, scholarships, etc (Carol): next meeting b. 2007 Committee members: Janice and Eric have expressed interest in participating. Kate will think about it. c. Publicity: Should include 2007 ball info on our December dance flyer; should notify Intercity Scot of our ball date. d. Date for 2008 ball – April 12 or April 5: Tried to book through dance dept but April 5, 12, 19 all booked. Are any Saturdays available for Great Hall? Could go to late March. 11. Social Dances / Parties: a. December party Sat Dec 2 at Grace Episcopal – 1pm i. Organizer: Dyan volunteered to coordinate and will ask Janice for help. Kate can be a back-up helper in case Janice cannot help. ii. Potluck host needed – ask Sunday night iii. Need to cancel Sunday dancing that weekend b. Valentine party – February 11 or 18, 2007. i. This will be a Social (recorded music/Sunday night) ii. Need room – Carol will ask Union.

12. Demos: a. Curling demo: no contact from them so questions unanswered. [Email update: demo is off.] b. Overture Center International Festival, Sunday, February 25, 2007 (20 minutes between 11am-5pm): Need to let them know by 11/15; 8 yes so far. c. Costumes: Norma has material in case more skirts are needed. 13. Review of timetable a. October: determine program for December party. b. Flyer for December party with pertinent info 14. Next meeting: Thursday, November 16 (6:30 pot luck) at Carol Hassemer’s home – 3 Deer Point Trail, Madison, 53719.[Email update: meeting date (only) changed to Monday, November 20].
