Dear Families,

In an effort to keep you informed about your child’s classroom activities during the third twelve weeks of school, the following is a list of concepts that will be introduced to your child through hands-on, whole group, small group, or workstation activities.

Language Arts

 Name at least 20 uppercase and 20 lowercase letters

 Produce a rhyme with a given word

 Produce a word that begins with the same sound as a given pair of words

 Combine words to make a compound word

 Use regular/irregular plurals, regular past tense, personal and possessive pronouns, and subject-verb agreement

Math

 Count1-10 items, rote count 1-30, recognize one digit numerals 0-9, subitize from 1-5

 Divide 10 items equally

 Name and create shapes

 Sort and describe how groups are similar or different (height, length, weight)

 Recognize and create patterns

 Collect and organize data in a graphic representation

 Make word problems (adding to 5 objects, subtracting 1-5 objects)

Social Studies

 Identify similarities and differences in characteristics of families and people

 Discuss the roles and responsibilities of community workers  Identify flags of the United States and Texas

 Recite the Pledge of Allegiance

 Engage in voting as a method of group decision-making

Science

 Describe life cycles of organisms

 Discuss the relationship of organisms to their environment

 Identify earth materials, their properties and uses

 Practice good habits of personal safety, health and hygiene, nutrition and exercise

 Describe sources of energy (light, heat, electricity)

 Identify objects in the sky

 Describe changes in the earth and sky

 Use simple measuring devices to learn about objects

 Demonstrate the importance of caring for our environment and our planet

Social Development

 Follow classroom rules and routines

 Regulate own behavior

 Take care of and manage classroom materials

 Assume various roles and responsibilities as part of a classroom community

 Begin to have meaningful friends

 Demonstrate empathy and caring for others
