Plan for MSD II
Week 2 Create detailed MSD II plans for all the subsystems (Assembly: Dennis and Anthony; Fluid System: Belinda and Jason) Make sure that the plans are detailed enough, including specific due dates for each person. Once the two main subsystems are completed, trade test plans between group members for critical analysis of tasks to be added or altered. Submit absolute final Design Review to Steve, including a final BOM.
Week 3 Order parts before Christmas so that upon arrival back from break, the building process can begin. Where possible, record anticipated arrival dates of parts from companies who provide the information. Make a spreadsheet of tracking numbers of each part. Give lung model, and all the money and resources needed to Belinda’s friend for construction within the next couple of weeks.
Week 4 Machine the base: 1. Cut two ABS plastic crossbars i. Drill holes for organ tray legs, as well as screw holes on side. 2. Cut two Lexan side support bars i. Drill holes for connection of support bars to ABS crossbars, and hinge.
Week 5 Curve and attach the ribs: 1. Using Jason’s dad’s wheel, cut and curve 10 ribs for upper portion of setup i. Set a tolerance for deflection of curved ribs, to make sure they all align with the sternum. ii. Attach ribs to Lexan side supports and rivet in place with precut holes on piano hinge. 2. Cut sternum to specified dimensions to align the ribs properly. i. Possibly also include an angled support from the top? ii. Create tapped holes for screws to connect ribs. Week 6 Construct Organ Tray 1. Create base and walls of organ tray i. Cut holes for tubing in top wall so that they can connect to heart…make sure the holes aren’t too tight so that there is some lee-way for the tubes to flex. ii. Attach Velcro connections on side walls and bottom plate for lung attachment…create an outer sketch on the walls for the exact placement of the Velcro strips. 2. Create legs for insertion into base. i. Create adjustable ‘spacers’ that allow the level of the organ tray to be altered depending on surgeon’s desire height. ii. Perform ‘fit test’ to ensure that the legs fit comfortably into designated hole without much trouble. Week 7 Finalize Assembly and Add in Organs 1. Attach remaining lower ribs i. Affix diaphragm to underside of newly attached bottom ribs. 2. Velcro air pillows to bottom of organ tray, underneath diaphragm
Week 8 Finish Up Loose Ends With Assembly; Integrate with Fluid System 1. Make certain structural integrity of setup is sound. 2. All parts are secure; screw holes are correct size and screws all fit soundly 3. Make sure all ribs attached to the sternum are not overstressed, causing wear and shearing stress over time. 4. Combine Assembly setup with Fluid System setup to ensure entire simulator works well when completely assembled.
Week 9 Continue to Work on Technical Paper and Poster Advertisement
Week 10 Test entire system as a whole for full functionality
