How to Save the “Drafting Strands” Form as a Template

1. Download the document and open it using Microsoft Word. 2. Once opened, and before you add any information, you want to save the document as a template. a. File menu ➔ Save as (Table below column A) b. Name it whatever you’d like c. Change the pull-down menu below to Word Template (.dotx) (Table below columns B and C)

3. Once you have saved you template, close the document. 4. Now you have a template that you can use over and over.

How to use your template.

1. File menu ➔ New from template . . . (This will open your template menu.) 2. Click on “My Templates.” (Top of the left column) 3. You will see your newly created template. 4. Click on it to open it. 5. You will need to give this document a name , for example airplaneactivity.docx 6. You can now enter information without altering the blank template. Information About Using a Form

1. When you open your document, all the fields that you need to fill in will be shaded and your document will be locked so that you are only able to fill in the shaded areas. 2. To move through the shaded areas, use your tab key or move your cursor with your mouse. 3. After filling in all the information you may want to “unshade” the fields. In order to do this you will need to access the “Developer” tools on your menu bar.

4. On you document the words “Form Shading” are shaded. Click on that to “unshade” it, and it will remove all of the shading in the document. It is now ready for printing.

5. Your document is also locked. This means you cannot access any of the information that is not one of the form fields. If you desire to edit the other portions of the document, you will need to unlock the document. You do this the same way as able. Click on “Protect Form” to unshade it. Your document is now unlocked and you are able to edit any portion of the document.
