Shh! We have an Exhibition! Launch of A World of Colour: The Art of Beatrice Alemagna and Chris Haughton.

04/02/2017

A true feast for the eyes, this exhibition brings together two of the most exciting illustrators working in children’s books today, Beatrice Alemagna and Chris Haughton. Enter their world of the imagination, featuring art work from their award-winning picturebooks. Both are masters of composition and colour and their work is lively and full of humour.

Curated by dlr Writer in Residence Sarah Webb, the exhibition will be on display until 31 March and will be a highlight at the Mountains to Sea dlr Book Festival which runs from 22 – 26 March 2017.

Beatrice Alemagna was born in Bologna and now works and lives in Paris. Her work has won many international awards and she has exhibited all over the world, from Munich to Tokyo. Her works include A Lion in Paris, The Five Misfits, What is a Child? and The Marvellous Fluffy Squishy Itty Bitty. Her most recent work is On a Magical Do Nothing Day which will be published in April.

Chris Haughton is an Irish designer and picturebook maker. His first book, A Bit Lost has been translated into 20 languages and has won awards in 7 countries including the Dutch Picture Book of the Year. Other award-winning books include Shh! We have a Plan, Oh no, George! and most recently Goodnight Everyone. He co-founded NODE, a fair trade social business based in Nepal in 2012 and one of his fair trade rugs ‘Fish’ is on display at the exhibition.

Beatrice and Chris will be participating in this year’s Mountains to Sea dlr Book Festival on Sunday 26 March, with talks, storytime and an opportunity for families to meet both artists. Tours of the exhibition will also be provided on 26 March. In the meantime, young visitors can enjoy a fun worksheet as they explore the exhibition.
