FARMINGDALE, NJ, MAY 26, 2011 – The directors and members of Eagle Oaks Golf & Country Club are proud to announce the 3rd Annual “Honor Day” Military Event and Tour- nament on Thursday, May 26th in support of the courageous men and women who stand in defense of our country’s freedom. Traditionally held on the Thursday before Memorial Day, this year’s Eagle Oak’s Honor Day will host approximately 200 active duty Marines of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) for a full day of gourmet food and top-shelf bever- ages, golf tournament on a championship caliber golf course, and pure entertainment and re- laxation in a luxurious clubhouse. The 24th MEU members will be arriving aboard the am- phibious war ship USS Iwo Jima in New York harbor May 20th for annual New York City Fleet Week activities. Golf tee time is 12:30 a.m., ceremonies will commence at 6:00 p.m. The proceeds from the event go directly to the Hope For The Warriors®, a 501 (c) org, pro- vides aid to those military injured during war and are transitioning back into civilian life. “We know that freedom is not free,” said Domenic Gatto, Chairman and President of Eagle Oaks Golf & Country Club. “It is our privilege and honor to host a well-deserved day of fun and relaxation for these courageous and brave men and women who so valiantly and selflessly serve our country. Our members are proud and honored to share their club for the day.” --more--
Honor Day/Page 2 Joe Cary, Eagle Oaks member and Senior Sales Trader for Susquehanna International Group said, “We owe a large debt of gratitude to our brave soldiers who fight for our country’s freedom, and it is an honor to have them with us at Eagle Oaks on this special and memo- rable occasion.” "The members of this club demonstrate to our wounded that their service and sacrifice is not taken for granted," said Tina Atherall, Hope For The Warriors® Executive Vice President. "Our service members might spend just one day at the club but they will feel honored by these members for the rest of their lives."
This year, one of the Honor Day speakers will be Lt. Jason Redman, USN who was commis- sioned in May 2004 as a Naval SEAL Officer. In May of 2006, Lt. Redman graduated from the grueling US Army Ranger School and deployed to Fallujah, Iraq the following year. On September 13, 2007 while acting as Assault Force Commander to capture an Al Qaeda High Value Individual, Lt. Redman’s Assault Team came under heavy machine gun and small arms fire and he was severely wounded in the ensuing firefight.
While recovering at Bethesda Naval Medical Center, Lt. Redman hung a bright orange sign on his door, which became a statement for wounded warriors everywhere. This sign gained national recognition and now hangs in the Wounded Ward at the Bethesda Medical Center. After 35 surgeries, Jason uses his positive attitude to motivate others and to continue to raise awareness of the sacrifices of America’s military forces and their families. This drive led him to create Wounded Wear, a non-profit organization designed to provide clothing kits and clothing modifications to America’s wounded warriors, and to promote awareness through- out the country of the sacrifices that wounded service members have made in the name of freedom.
Lt. Redman’s personal military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with Valor, Pur- ple Heart, Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achieve- ment Medal (five awards), and Combat Action Ribbon (two awards).
Special guest Jon Scott, FOX News anchor and proud father of a West Point cadet, will kick-off Honor Day tributes beginning at 6 p.m. Ceremonies will include a Color Guard provided by the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit and the Colts Neck Naval JROTC, a “Taps” Marine bugler call during a moment of silence for those who have paid the ultimate sacri- fice, and a formal military toast.
