Emerald High School Spanish 3/4 Honors

II. Spanish III Honors- This course prepares students to: perform interpersonal, interpretive and presentational communicative tasks within the novice high to intermediate mid range on the ACTFL Proficiency scale; interpret, exchange, and present, information, concepts and ideas both within the classroom and beyond on a variety of topics including connections to other subject areas; and understand the relationship among the products, practices and perspectives of other cultures. In addition, students develop insight into their own language and culture. PREREQUISITES: Successful completion of Spanish 2 CP and teacher recommendation. This course is designed to be an introduction to the AP language curriculum and follows the SC Standards for Modern World Languages.

Spanish IV Honors-This course prepares students to: perform interpersonal, interpretive and presentational communicative tasks within the intermediate low to intermediate mid range on the ACTFL Proficiency scale; interpret, exchange, and present, information, concepts and ideas both within the classroom and beyond on a variety of topics including connections to other subject areas; and understand the relationship among the products, practices and perspectives of other cultures. In addition, students develop insight into their own language and culture. PREREQUISITES: Successful completion of Spanish 3 Honors and teacher recommendation.

III. Goals and Objectives: This course is designed to enable students to: - maintain a more complex conversation with a native speaker about students’ personal opinions on topics such as the environment, what defines a culture, Hispanic art and music, professions and future choices, and subjunctive wishes, hopes, and more expanding on previously learned topics such as food, classes, likes/dislikes, etc. - discuss future plans about any of the topics mentioned above using the simple future. - state their opinion to hypothetical situations using the conditional form. - discuss their opinions, desires, and fears using the subjunctive form. - talk about events in the past tense, using the correct form of the past as needed. - have the necessary vocabulary to accomplish the tasks mentioned above. - demonstrate confidence in their ability to communicate in Spanish by speaking, reading, writing, and listening to the language

IV. Performance Assessment/Grading: Projects/ Unit Performance Assessments (Interpretive, Interpersonal, Presentational)/ Tests 45% Verbal production/Verbal and conversational practice /Class work / Notebooks 20% Written quizzes 25% Homework 10% Total (per quarter) 100%

A. Final exam: The foreign language department of Emerald HS uses a performance based final exam that counts for 20% of the semester final grade. This final includes a written component, a listening component, a reading component, and an oral interview with the instructor. V. Materials Needed: - 3”x 5” notecards - 2” Binder - 5 Subject dividers - Pencils - Colored pencils - 1- Dry-erase marker- one- (to be used with individual white boards for class activities VI. Presentations: Students should be prepared to speak in Spanish in front of the class individually and in groups, with and without notes. Some verbal presentations will consist of a prepared presentation, and some verbal presentations will be spontaneous. Presentations are a major component of the grade. Therefore, a zero for an incomplete presentation will not be accepted. The students must complete all required presentations.

**NEW** This class will present at least one of their presentations to the preschool and elementary school- aged students. Students will be given permission slips to ride the bus/or drive during their class time to the preschool or elementary to complete their presentations.

VII. NEW DEVICE POLICY: Students will be limited in the use of their device during class time. Students may not use their device for translating unless instructed to do so. Due to the inaccuracy of translating services and the students requirement of vocabulary, the use of translation services will result in an incomplete and the student will be required to resubmit the assignment for partial credit, again without the use of translating services. There will be a sign, located at the front of the classroom, which will advise students of permitted device times. If a student is using a device outside of the permitted times, the device will be confiscated (per Gwd50/EHS policy). Once the students have been issued Chromebooks, the students will be required to have them in class, fully charged, every day. Once Chromebooks are issued, no cellular devices will be permitted.

VIII. Procedures and Rules Late assignments: Failure to turn in work on the assigned day will result in a 10 point deduction for each day that the work is late. Homework will be accepted late on the same day for half credit only.

Daily Preparation: I recommend students enrolled in Spanish 3/4 Honors study for at least 30 minutes each evening for students in level two and 30 minutes each evening.

Classroom Rules: Students will follow all policies and regulations as stated in the Greenwood School District Fifty Rights and Responsibilities Handbook and in the Emerald High School Agenda.

Students will also follow the classroom rules which are the following: 1. Be prepared with all materials for class daily and in seat when the bell rings. Be prepared to do/be your best. 2. Be respectful and listen when others (students and teachers) are speaking. 3. Speak in a respectful and positive manner to teachers, and fellow students. 4. Stay seated and on task until dismissed by the teacher; not by the bell.
