SULTAN SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 311 MINUTES OF PUBLIC INPUT BOARD MEETING MAY 13, 2003 SULTAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LIBRARY 501 DATE STREET, SULTAN WA 7:00 PM

Staff Present: Dale Fortenbacher, Kaarin Cargill, Bob Shacklett Call To Order Chairman Roesler called the public input meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.

Audience Input The following issues/concerns were addressed:  Concerns expressed by Linda Clarke regarding summer basketball supervisor, Dale Fortenbacher to follow up on her concern.  Kelly Korn expressed concerns due to impact fees being lowered, what impact will that have on the district? Superintendent Robinson explained that impact fees are not use for program funding only for capital projects and the formula for fees was established through the Snohomish County Auditors office. Kelly also expressed concerns regarding the lack of parks in recreation in Sultan. Board Chairman Roesler informed her that although the School District does work with the City of Sultan on select projects, development in the parks and recreation area is handled at the City level.

Presentation Presentation Sultan High School Schedule and Grading Matrix update:

Sultan High School Principal Bob Shacklett reported to the Board of Directors that the change in tutorial is working well, he is getting positive feedback from parents, the change works well for food service and teaching staff. The change does not impact contact minutes.

Mr. Shacklett also informed the Board of Directors he is checking into several Advisor/Advisee models which links student to teacher possibility they will begin using 2003-2004 year. Mr. Shacklett also stated that the four period schedule would be tested to the maximum in 2003-2004 with an increase in enrollment. Sultan High School has offered staff development this year regarding teaching strategies for a four period schedule, teaching from bell to bell. Tracks/pathways will begin in the 2003-2004 year and will be a two to three year process. There are issues concerning the state mandated standardized transcripts that does include "Ds", the effective date for the change was Feburary 2003. All changes will be reflected in the student handbook.

Business Superintendent Al Robinson presented to the Board of Directors, for approval education program staff reduction. Mr. Robinson informed the Board of Approval of Directors that due to attrition there will be a reduction of only one certificated FOUNTAIN/ Education position district-wide. SEA and PSE have been involved and helpful in the GLOVER UNANIMOUS Program Staff reduction process. Mr. Robinson also informed the Board of directors that the Reduction number of classified positions would be greater. Tracy Cotterill made a motion to approve education program staff reduction as presented. Sholine Glover seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously.

COTTERILL/ Executive Tracy Cotterill moved and Lauri Hitchcock seconded a motion to meet in HITCHCOCK Session executive session to discuss Personnel at 8:07 p.m. The motion carried UNANIMOUS unanimously. GLOVER/ Reconvene Sholine Glover moved and Tracy Cotterill seconded to reconvene the meeting COTTERILL at 8:17 p.m. No action was taken. UNANIMOUS Adjournment Being there was no further business Chairman Roesler adjourned the meeting at 8:18 p.m.
