Stockport Sports Awards will be held on Friday 23rd September 2016 at Houldsworth Golf Club, shortlisted nominees will receive 2 free tickets to the event.

Stockport Sports Awards is an annual event recognising local achievements in sport. The awards are an opportunity to recognise individual and club successes and to acknowledge achievements across all sports in the town. Stockport is proud to boast a wealth of sporting talent and the annual awards provide an ideal opportunity to celebrate these wonderful individuals, clubs and their achievements.

NOMINATIONS

Entries can be from any sport. Clubs nominated must be Stockport based. Individuals must reside, work or be a member of a Stockport based club.

Event Information

All Finalists (up to a maximum of 3 from each category) will be notified and invited to the awards evening at Houldsworth Golf Club, Houldsworth Street, Reddish where they will enjoy a formal awards ceremony / dinner. The event will be held on Friday 23rd September 2016 at 7pm. Following on from the local event, winners of each category shall be put forward for the Greater Manchester Sports Awards to be held in November 2016. *Please note that the Young Sports Achiever of the Year category is Stockport based only and therefore shall not go forward to the Greater Manchester Awards.

Award Categories

 The ‘Fred Perry’ Sports Personality of the Year Outstanding sports performer of any age in any sport

 Disabled Sports Achiever of the Year Outstanding disabled sports performer of any age in any sport

 Coach of the Year A community, club or school based coach who has made a significant impact or contribution to the development of performers in their sport or in Stockport

 Club of the Year A sports club/team which has made a significant impact or contribution to the development of sport or a team which has performed exceptionally in their chosen sport.

 The ‘Sir Stanley Matthews’ – Unsung Hero A person who has made an impact over a number of years on people, club, school or within the community of Stockport (minimum 10 years).

 Volunteer of the Year A person who has volunteered their time and made a significant impact or contribution to the development of sports performers, clubs, community or school sport.

 Young Sport Achiever of the Year Outstanding sports performer Under 18.

 Changing Lifestyle Recognition Award – Sponsored by Stockport Council A person who has used sport and physical activity to improve their quality of life

The Coach must be delivering on a VOLUNTARY basis within their local authority – Yes / No (Please circle as appropriate)

3. List all current coaching qualifications and additional personal development undertaken.

4. Please give details and evidence of mentoring and developing other coaches.

This category requires that the nominee has been involved in sport and physical activity for a minimum of ten years. Should this not be the case, but you do know someone who deserves recognition, we would advise nominating them for ‘Volunteer of the Year’ or ‘Coach of the Year’. CRITERIA 1.
