“Owl Radio”

WHEREAS: Owl Radio provides the music for all students to enjoy, playing all genres of music everyday of the week at all hours and;

WHEREAS: Of the past six years there as been a lack of proper management of the royalties’ account and the station is now behind, causing them to need a lawyer to fix the issue and begin paying back the royalties and purchasing the needed new ones to have access to latest music NOW;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: that the Student Senate take action by funding Owl Radio to pay their lawyer in the amount of $7,962.50 from the Senate Contingency account S00359 to Owl Radio S00108 and royalties will be paid for by the radio station.

THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: that Owl Radio continue to plan to resolve this issue in their own funding and be aware of the changing requirements that need to be met for them to continue playing music. “Student Government Accounting and Budget Office”

WHEREAS: Student Government Accounting and Budget Office is under staffed in comparison with other State Universities within Florida, the current amount of full- time employees in the office is one, there is a need for another full-time employee;

WHEREAS: The Student Government Accounting and Budget Office is responsible for all accounts that handle activities and service fees as well as student travel;

WHEREAS: this is a large task for one employee to handle and causes delays in the processes of the staff NOW;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Student Senate will transfer $54,180.00 (rate $42,000.oo and benefits of $12,180.00) from S00359 to S00330 to pay for a new position for a full-time employee in The Student Government Accounting and Budget Office;

THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: that in the case that no one is hired before the fiscal year the money is to be transferred back to the Senate Contingency on May 5, 2013. Also in the case that not all funds are used all left over funds are to be transferred back to the Senate Contingency S00359. WHEREAS: Freaker’s Ball is the single largest, most anticipated event every year, and;

WHEREAS: FAU’s push towards becoming a more traditional school means that programming needs to reflect that, and;

WHEREAS: Program Board’s annual budget has not been updated to reflect the amount that is actually needed for the past three years because events have grown such as the Foam Party (budgeted at $28,000 but actually costs $40,000 because of security and barricades), Fall Family Fest and the Block Party (each budgeted at $2,000 but costs $20,000), and;

WHEREAS: Students from schools around the state frequently discuss what programs are occurring on their campuses and if Program Board can put on a huge show, we can become more competitive with the larger schools, and;

WHEREAS: Program Board’s goal is to create “experiences” rather than just events, and;

WHEREAS: Freaker’s Ball has been going on for more than ten years, and;

WHEREAS: Program Board did not have Freaker’s Ball last year because of funding issues which disappointed many students and as such we want to make this bigger and better than ever before, and;

WHEREAS: Program Board would like to bring three mainstream artists to cater to the very diverse student body of FAU, and;

WHEREAS: We want to host the show in the arena as part of our ‘Spring Break Week’ during March, which can hold many more students and create a greater concert experience than the Barry Kaye Auditorium, NOW;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: that the University Wide Senate allocates $75,000 from the senate contingency account (S20012) for Freaker’s Ball to Program Board’s account (S005200). Florida Atlantic University Student Government Student Senate 7th Legislative Session SGSSB-13-04

“Traditions Spring Semester”

WHEREAS: The Traditions Committee is apart of the Program Board and this is the first year this committee has been formed to help with Florida Atlantic University Traditions as well as help promote athletic events;

WHEREAS: This is the first year and the money allocated to them was an estimate of what they might need there is now a greater need for the promotions of athletic events and for promotional items for the spring semester that they no longer have enough funding for;

WHEREAS: This committee is the sole promoter of athletic events taking the responsibility off of the executive office and allows them to focus on broader and more important issue NOW;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: that the Student Senate transfer $20,000 from S00359 to the Traditions account S00161 to be spent for the promotion and promotional items needed for the remainder of the traditional events

THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: if all funds are not used by the end of the spring semester the remaining amount of money is to be transferred back to the Senate Contingency S00359. Florida Atlantic University Student Government Student Senate 7th Legislative Session SGSSB-13-05

“Up ‘til Dawn Letter Sending Event 2013” Authors: Jaclyn Normandin, Cora Johnson Sponsor(s): April Turner

WHEREAS: Up ‘til Dawn is the largest, most anticipated fundraiser of the year for the past 3 years at FAU and;

WHEREAS: About 500 FAU students attend and push towards uniting for one cause that reflects student fundraising efforts, and;

WHEREAS: Program Board’s annual budget for this year does not accommodate our needs as it has in the past. Therefore the University Wide Student Senate is preferred to accommodate us. And;

WHEREAS: If we can put on a successful event, students will be able to unite together and beat last year’s money raised which was 33,000 dollars for the patients of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. And;

WHEREAS: Up ‘til Dawn’s goal is to raise as much money as possible while encouraging student involvement, and;

WHEREAS: without funding from the student senate, many of the activities planned during the event will not be able to happen, and;

WHEREAS: Up ‘til dawn is a 501.3c non-profit organization running completely on donations, and;

WHEREAS: we want to have a successful event in the FAU Recreation Center on February 22nd , now; therefore be it resolved that the University Wide Senate allocates $8,000 from the senate contingency account for Up ‘til Dawn’s Letter Sending Event.
