Eleanor Pugsley, Research Services Manager, and Linley Hooper, Resources Manager, conducted a tour of the library.

The benefits of being a member of the GSV . the library can be used at any time it is open . items can be purchased from the excellent bookshop, . computer classes are held . Thursday Talks are held on many varied topics . Experienced volunteers to help with research . In March 2008, any member will be able to submit a short request, which will be answered for free if the time taken is approximately ½ hour. If the time is longer than this, there would be an hourly fee, different for members and non members. . Members who live more than 200 km from the GSV are entitled to 2 free hours of research per year. . GSV is an authorised LDS Centre, enabling ordered films to be viewed at the GSV . Some records are also on ‘permanent’ loan ( 3 years) . All journals received from around the world are indexed and incorporated into the catalogue (Only members can view the issue details) . The Vicfamilies database is maintained (like a members interest) and members can submit a CSV file. . LINX is also a names databases . Members may use Ancestry.com and Findmypast.com free in the library, and vouchers are available for ScotlandsPeople. . The members catalogue contains MUCH MORE than the catalogue for the public.

. Now has a subscription to Ancestry Library Edition. . Elaine has signed up as a Registry of Births, Deaths and marriages volunteer and is helping with the War Dead project. Photographs are taken of war memorials around Australia and sent to the Registry for inclusion in the project. Further information will be sent via the email list. . Liz Pidgeon - Yarra Plenty

. November is Local History Month at YPRL and I have been busy organising speakers, and attending sessions in our branches. . 2008 is the Centenary of Suffrage for Women in Victoria. There was recent grant funding available so I have applied for funding for a biography of Nellie Ibbott who was the first woman mayor of Heidelberg and Victoria. . I am about to complete an online course through TasGenes Digital Family History Services, "Answering enquiries in libraries and information centres". Booked via Caval. See: http://www.tasgenes.com/learning.htm . They are also offering other online courses in genealogy. . YPRL is currently tagging items for the introduction of RFID which will take place early in 2008 . I am about to commence training in Hyperion which is a Digital archive library delivered via SirsiDynex. . I am also registered to attend one day of the VALA conference in February in Melbourne. . Yarra Libraries new LMS system is about to go live on Friday 14th December, as part of the Swift consortium.

 Richmond Library is launching a book "Dimmeys of Richmond: The rise and fall of a family business" by Samuel Furphy on Sunday 6th December.

Natasha Kamenev - Bayside

. Bayside Library Service established quarterly forums between members of Brighton and Sandringham Historical Societies, members of Black Rock House, the library service and the Urban Culture and Strategy Department known as the Bayside Historical Network. The purpose of the Network is to share and promote resources, prevent unnecessary duplication of materials and resources so any organisation with an interest in local Bayside history can work together. . Local History Collection at Bayside Library. . Consolidate and catalogue relevant LOC area vertical file resources. . In the process of creating electronically accessible index of vertical file. . In the process of creating a description and an indexed list of Brighton Mechanic’s Institute Collection.

Amanda Peckham – Hobson’s Bay

 We have received a Local Priorities Grant to produce an online Hobsons Bay History Kit. The first stage of it will be launched in May 2008 at the Williamstown Library 30th Birthday celebrations in May. The first stage is the digitising of the 1984 Williamstown History Kit.  In November I produced a Powerpoint show for the Ada Cambridge Prize Launch (part of the Williamstown Literary Festival).  We have subscribed to Ancestry Library edition and I will be commencing training sessions for the public from February. Any notes and tips would be gratefully accepted.
