The Manager Diverse Learning Needs works as part of the Student Services Leadership Team within System Learning.

System Learning delivers a range of services and high level advice and proactivity in the area of supporting learning and teaching in schools by working with teachers in learning spaces, in partnership with school leadership teams

Salary and Conditions:

The commencing salary is Level 5 Step 1 to Level 5 Step 3 of the Professional Officers Salary scale currently $131,310 - $145,570. Superannuation and leave loading will be in addition to the basic salary. Salary packaging options are available.

PREPARING YOUR APPLICATION

LODGING YOUR APPLICATION

Approximately one week after the closing date a selection panel of a least three members will shortlist the applications, inviting for interview the applicants who best meet all the selection criteria.

INTERVIEW

If you are being invited for interview you will receive a phone call advising you of the time and location. Interview questions are based on the selection criteria and the key accountabilities so be prepared to give examples of your work experience, skills and knowledge, and how these relate to the position you are applying for.

REFEREES

After the interviews are conducted referees will be contacted on the applicant(s) the panel deems most meritorious, so include at least three work referees – ideally from your current employer or supervisor, or the most recent ones.

DECISION

Following the referee checks the selection panel will make a final recommendation on whom to appoint based on the merit of the written application, the performance at interview and the referees’ comments. This is forwarded to the Executive Director of Schools for approval.

Once approved, the successful applicant will be telephoned and a verbal offer made, with a written Letter of Appointment to follow. Unsuccessful applicants are notified by email.

• Provide leadership to the teams within Student Services which support the diverse learning needs of students

• Ensure that the specialist teaching and support staff within Student Services provide accountable and responsive services to schools, students and families

• Provide leadership to the system in matters relating to the diverse learning needs of students

• Collaboratively develop proactive structures and frameworks (including personalized planning case conferencing) which ensure that schools effectively cater for the diverse learning needs of all students with disabilities/additional needs REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE

FUNCTIONS

• Provide direct supervision and support to the Diverse Learning Needs team

• Collaboratively develop effective models of service for the Leading and Specialist Teacher team

• Develop and implement system-wide approaches to addressing the diverse learning needs of students with a specific emphasis on personalized learning plans and interventions to meet student needs

• Work collaboratively with the other Leaders in System Learning to develop co- ordinated wrap-around services for vulnerable students

• Ensure that students and schools receive quality specialist services which are responsive, timely, efficient, co-ordinated and cost effective

• Maintain knowledge and understanding of the system of schools priorities and strategic intent

• Undertake development and review processes

• Complete other duties as required by the Director of System Learning and the Executive Director of Schools
