Founded by Ernest Francillon and Auguste Agassiz in the year 1832, the Longines Watch Co. of Switzerland was established in the “Long Meadows” (translated: Longines) near the town of St. Imier. Winner of countless horology awards, their wristwatches are among the best in the world, on par with the “big boys” of the Swiss watch making profession including its chief rival Omega.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage Longines timepiece, a men’s 14kt Solid Natural Yellow Gold fancy stepped case model that dates to ca 1950. This triple-signed model is in excellent condition both inside and out, complete with a 23Z caliber mechanism, one of Longines’ most reliable.

The fancy, octagonal case measures 36mm lug tip to lug tip and 27.5mm in width (28.5mm with partially recessed winding crown). This works out to be just over 1-3/8 inches long by 1-1/8 inches wide, not including the crown. It is powered by its original 17 jewel, manual wind Longines mechanism that has been fully serviced by my trusted watchmaker David to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The silver, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, professionally restored to its original status. It features applied solid yellow gold hour markers and Arabic numerals that sit on an engraved background and original gold metal Dauphine-style hands. Being a dress model it is without a seconds dial. Signed LONGINES below the 12 marker with applied winged hourglass emblem.

The cut corner solid glass crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The fancy stepped case is a two-piece design that is 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold and it is in excellent PLUS condition, nicer than my photos perhaps show and free of any wear. The matching yellow gold finished winding crown (unmarked) is in excellent shape and operates smoothly.

Turning the watch over I find that the 14k solid gold back lid is in excellent PLUS condition – no wear or engravings and stamped 14K at the edge. Inside I find a clean and fully serviced manual wind mechanism, signed Longines Watch Co., Swiss – Seventeen 17 Jewels [Grade] 23Z, LXW with serial number 7,939,564 – dating the watch to ca 1950 as per available production records. The inside case is stamped LONGINES WITTNAUER WATCH CO. - NEW YORK, GENEVA, MONTREAL – 14K with case number below. The “L” stamp is for the Arnold Lemieux watch case company.

This fine watch has been cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. Comes fitted with a new 16mm black deBeer Paris hand finished lizard (grain) calf leather strap with matching color buckle. All in all an excellent, fancy case, fancy dial midcentury dress model that is ready to be worn and enjoyed – my photos don’t do it justice.

Among watch collectors, the Omega Watch Co. of Switzerland, a firm founded by Louis Brandt of Biel in 1848, is one of the most renowned brands of timepieces. In 1894 a new caliber bore the name of “Omega” for the first time, and since then it has produced some of the finest caliber wristwatches money can buy. Omega is my favorite Swiss watch firm as well, combining those qualities of name brand recognition, high quality and relative value that are important to the seasoned watch collector.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage timepiece form the Omega firm, a men’s Seamaster Cosmic model that dates to ca 1969. The Cosmic line from Omega was limited and are not often seen today, the first model being a moon phase model issued in 1947.This watch is in excellent, original condition, even retaining its original Omega-signed crystal and winding crown.

Five-times signed for Omega (dial, crystal, crown, case and mechanism), it measures 37mm end to end and 33mm in width (36mm with Omega-signed crown). In inches this works out to be just shy of 1-1/2” long by just over 1-1/4” wide, not including the crown. It is powered by its original 17 jewel, 2 adjustment Omega caliber 613 manual wind mechanism that has been routinely serviced to ensure it runs very well and keeps accurate time.

The 100% original silver satin enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, guaranteed untouched since it left the Omega factory. It features a 60 second outer track (calibrated to 1/5 of a second), black enamel painted hour markers and applied silver and black hour markers, original silver metal hands with enamel inserts, a semi-quickset date window at the 3 position and ‘sweep’ original center seconds hand. Signed OMEGA below the 12 marker and Seamaster COSMIC above the 6 marker. It is further signed SWISS MADE below the 6 marker.

The original hardened acrylic armored crystal is in great to excellent condition (a few scratches that could polish out if desired) complete with a tiny “OMEGA” symbol in the center you can see with a magnifying loupe. The one-piece hermetic style case is solid stainless steel and in excellent condition with a polished finish on the bezel and sides. The original Omega-signed steel winding crown is in excellent order, winding and setting as it should, including the semi-quickset date function that allows the user to advance an entire day by moving the hands back to 9pm and then past midnight for each day one wants to advance.

Turning the watch over I see that the back of the case has polished sides and a satin/brush finish across the center. It is in excellent order and stamped SEAMASTER WATERPROOF – 136016 – TOOL 105 along with the Omega symbol and Seahorse insignia that are very crisp. Being a one-piece case, it requires the crystal and stem/crown to be removed to access the mechanism. Inside is an original 613 caliber, 17 jewel, 2 adjustment manual wind mechanism with serial number that dates the watch to ca 1969 as per available production records. The inside case lid is stamped with reference number 136.016 and is Fab. Suisse, Swiss Made, Acier Inoxydable.

This watch has been routinely serviced and maintained since new. As such, it winds and sets smoothly and keeps accurate time. I have fitted a new 18mm black crocodile (grain) calf leather band on the watch with stainless steel buckle. Folks, this is the first Omega Seamaster “Cosmic” model that I’ve had for sale since 2003 and I can’t think of finding a nicer, original example. I think you’ll be very pleased.

Founded in 1892, the Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, PA would not officially start its watch production until March 1894, having first chosen the name “Columbian Watch Co.” but this name was already copyrighted by the Waterbury Co. The name Hamilton was derived from Lancaster’s founding father, Mr. Andrew Hamilton, a Scottish-born attorney who was instrumental in the growth of Lancaster.

By 1908 Hamilton was producing a lady’s pendant watch and near the end of WWI a small line of military style watches were available for men. Hamilton never looked back, arguably producing the highest quality American made watches from the 1920s through the 1960s.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage men’s model from the Hamilton firm, an extra nice and original FIRST MATE model that dates to ca 1960. This is one of the early Swiss powered Hamilton models and it features a one-piece, hermetic style case that is 10kt Yellow Rolled Gold plated with a stainless steel back.

Quadruple-signed (dial, crown, case and mechanism), it measures 38mm end to end and 32.5mm in width (35mm with original Hamilton-signed crown). In inches this works out to be 1-1/2” by 1-1/4” wide without the winding crown. It is powered by its original 17 jewel Hamilton manual wind mechanism that’s been fully serviced by my trusted watchmaker David so it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The 100% original gold, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition – untouched since it left the factory and in immaculate shape. It features raised gold hour markers, original gold metal Lance style hands (excellent) and a separate sub-seconds dial with ‘sweep’ gold seconds hand. Signed HAMILTON below the 12 and SWISS at the base.

The gently domed hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent condition and most likely the original. The 10kt Yellow Rolled Gold Plated bezel (body) is in excellent condition, complete with faceted lugs. The original yellow gold finished Hamilton-signed winding crown is excellent as well, operating smoothly.

Turning the watch over I note that the stainless steel back lid is in excellent condition with no wear or engravings. It is stamped “Hamilton” at one edge and “10K RGP Bezel – Stainless Steel Back” on the opposite edge. You will note that this is a bit off center but this was done when the case was made as the two sections are fused together. Being a one-piece case you need to remove the crystal and then the stem/crown to access the mechanism. I had my watchmaker David take the photos inside and the mechanism is signed Hamilton 686 – Seventeen 17 Jewels, Swiss HYL. The inside of the case lid is stamped HAMILTON WATCH CO., LANCASTER, PA – 10K RGP BEZEL – STAINLESS STEEL BACK, STAR W.C. CO. with case reference numbers as well.

This “First Mate” model has been professionally disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated so it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. Comes fitted on a new 18mm black deBeer Paris hand crafted lizard (grain) calf leather strap with gold finished buckle. All in all an excellent 1960 Hamilton that’s ready to be worn and enjoyed for many years to come…they don’t get any nicer or more original than this.

Founded in 1868, the International Watch Company of Schaffhausen, Switzerland has produced some of the finest watches ever, on par with Vacheron & Constantin, Rolex and Patek Philippe in terms of the precision and caliber of its movements. Founded by the American Fred Seeland and notable as the only watch making firm in German Switzerland.

I am pleased to offer for sale this excellent condition gent’s IWC timepiece, an 18kt Solid Yellow Gold model that dates to ca 1947 - 1948. This triple-signed watch is simply beautiful in person and I don’t feel my photos do its classic, understated elegance justice.

The case on this timepiece measures 44mm from lug tip to lug tip and 36.5mm in width (37.5mm with recessed original crown). This works out to be 1-3/4 inches in length by just under 1-1/2 inches wide including the crown. It is powered by its original IWC caliber 89, manual wind mechanism that is in excellent condition, inspected and serviced by my valued watchmaker David just last week and keeping accurate time.

The ivory color, matte enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, professionally restored to its original status and nicely done. It features a 60 second outer chapter comprised of incised gold dots, raised gold numerals and arrow-shape hour markers, original gold metal Leaf-style hands and a ‘sweep’ gold center seconds hand. Signed International Watch Co. Schaffhausen below the 12 marker and SWISS at the base of the dial.

The hardened acrylic crystal is excellent condition with no flaws. The three-piece case is fully signed IWC and crafted of 18 Karat Solid Yellow Gold. It is in excellent PLUS condition with very nice flared, claw shape lugs. The original gold- finished winding crown (correctly unmarked for this model) is in excellent order, operating smoothly.

Turning the watch over I note that the 18k solid gold back lid is snap-down in design and in excellent PLUS shape, free of any wear or engravings, past or present. Inside is a clean and high-grade manual wind mechanism that is signed INTERNATIONAL WATCH CO. – SWISS with caliber C.89 below the balance wheel and serial number #1,193,880 stamped on one of the lower plates, dating it to ca 1947 – 1948 according to published production records. The inside of the case lid is finely engine-turned and is stamped with the Swiss 18k gold Goddess Minerva hallmark and also PROBUS IWC SCAFUSIA – 18K, 0.750 -1217390 (IWC case reference numbers are unique to themselves).

This fine timepiece has been fully disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets very smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted with a new 18mm crocodile grain calf leather strap with matching gold finished buckle, ready to strap on and enjoy. Folks, if you wish to have the best quality money can buy I suggest that you seriously consider this watch – it’s one that you can wear and enjoy while also being a very sound investment.

        • As my pal Cautious Carl says, "Buy a Nice Watch from Mike"….he was telling people to buy a watch from Dave but I increased the amount of Scooby snacks!

I’ve always loved vintage Bulova watches, whether it is a ladies, men’s, Art Deco or military model. The firm was founded by the Czech immigrant Joseph Bulova and based in New York City, where the famous Bulova Observatory was located, high above a skyscraper on Fifth Avenue. Like Gruen, it also had a factory in (Bienne) Switzerland, established in 1912 and dedicated to the production of watch components and their assembly into jeweled movements. The firm is known for its aggressive advertising campaigns and for being the first to advertise on radio – with an announcer stating “B – U – L – O – V – A … 8:00p.m., Bulova Watch Time.”

I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage timepiece from the firm, a men’s military ordnance 21169M model (ref. W-3818A) that dates to 1961. It may be hard to believe but this is the first time I’ve ever had a Bulova military watch that wasn’t from WWII or the Korean War period and I have to say I’m not sure why as this one is a fantastic timepiece.

Triple-signed, its stainless steel case measures 39mm end to end and 32mm in width (34.5mm with crown). In inches this works out to be just over 1-1/2:” in length by 1-1/4” wide, not including the winding crown. My Bulova-trained watchmaker (David) has fully serviced its original 10BNCH caliber, 15 jewel USA made mechanism, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The 100% original black, matte enamel finished dial is in excellent condition. It features a 60 second outer chapter, Arabic numerals with darkened luminous (no longer active), original silver steel hands with fill, a 24 hour military time inner track with white numbers and a ‘sweep’ original seconds hand with a touch of luminous on its tip. Signed BULOVA below the 12.

The domed acrylic crystal is a new old stock replacement in excellent condition. The case is stainless steel and in excellent overall shape, perhaps a couple tiny scuffs or nicks but one of the nicest military cases I’ve come across. It is what I would describe as a gunmetal finish. The silver steel winding crown is a later replacement in excellent shape, winding and setting smoothly.

Turning the watch over I see that the stainless back lid is screw-down in design and in excellent condition. It is stamped with a lot of information and I will transcribe it here: Wrist Watch Mil-W-3818A, Ser. No. 04228 – Stock No. AF6645-808-1407 – Bulova Stock No. 10BNCH – Cont. No. DA-36-038-ORD- 21169M U.S.. I am no expert on military watches but I am wondering if the “AF” after the stock number refers to Air Force – if anyone knows (and I’m sure there are many who do) please let me know.

Removing this lid reveals an inner, non-magnetic cover, to protect the mechanism from dust and debris. Lifting this reveals an original manual wind mechanism (NON hack set) that is stamped Bulova Watch Co., USA – 15 Jewels [Caliber] 10BNCH – M1. You will note that the mechanism carries the 1961 date code of “M1.” The inside of the case back is stamped Star Watch Case Co., Stainless Steel.

This original American ordnance watch has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. I have fitted this watch with a new (but vintage style and design) 16mm army olive color canvas strap with stainless buckle for a “correct” vintage military look. All in all an excellent, ready to wear U.S. military timepiece that dates to the start of the Vietnam War.

          • As my pal Cautious Carl says, "Buy a Nice Watch from Mike"….he was telling people to buy a watch from Dave but I increased the amount of Scooby snacks!

The history of the Girard-Perregaux Watch Company begins in 1791, when the watchmakers Bautte and Mouline founded a factory in Geneva to manufacture watches. In 1856 the watchmaker constant Girard married Marie Perregaux and the unified firm of “Girard – Perregaux” came into being. In 1906 Perregaux acquired the earlier firm of Bautte and Mouline, and today the firm is located in La Chaux- de-Fonds. They have always made a name for themselves in the realm of wristwatches through their unique creativity and high quality mechanisms, one of a select few who produce many of its movements entirely in-house. Today, Girard Perregaux watches are among the most expensive timepieces money can buy.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage timepiece from the firm, a men’s late 1950s “Gyromatic” (self-winding) model in excellent original condition. Before I say anything else I want to note that I have not seen a Gyromatic model quite like this before – it features both a unique case (double patented) and a uniquely designed original dial.

Triple-signed, its stainless steel case measures 42mm lug tip to lug tip and 34mm in width (including the inset crown). This works out to be just over 1-5/8 inches long by just shy of 1-3/8 inches in width. It is powered by its original and higher grade, 17 jewel rotor automatic Girard-Perregaux mechanism that has been fully serviced by my skilled watchmaker David to ensure it is running well and keeping accurate time.

The 100% original silver, matte enamel finished dial is in excellent condition – guaranteed untouched since it left the Girard-Perregaux factory more than half a century ago. This is no ordinary dial, as it features an engine-turned (engraved) outer track that borders an octagonal design center dial – very unique, very striking. Features include raised silver hour markers, original silver steel Dauphine-style hands and a center ‘sweep’ center seconds hand. Signed Girard-Perregaux below the 12 and GYROMATIC above the 6 marker. At the base of the dial it is signed SWISS, hard to see in my photos. Again, this dial is 100% original and untouched.

The hardened acrylic armored crystal is in excellent, clear condition with no flaws. The GP-signed case is solid stainless steel and in excellent shape – a unique faceted edge midcentury modern style that is quite unique. The flush-set steel winding crown is in excellent order as well, winding and setting as it should.

Turning the watch over I see that the screw-down, stainless back lid is in excellent overall shape (a few pinpricks) and stamped with case number 73930016 and “Stainless Steel.” Inside I find a high quality rotor automatic, gold-finished mechanism that is signed Girard-Perregaux & Co., Seventeen 17 Jewels, Swiss – GXM. The serial number is #2,119,363. The inside case lid is stampedGIRARD PERREGAUX 1791 – SWISS – STAINLESS STEEL – BREVET + 260,128, BREVET + 279,361. These Swiss patent numbers are of interest; the first (260128) was first issued to the Piaget Watch Company for its hidden crown and the second (279361) was issued for its movement suspension.

This timepiece has been fully disassembled, cleaned, oiled & regulated to ensure it winds and sets effortlessly, keeping accurate time. Like most vintage automatic watches you should always manually wind it 6 to 12 turns before putting it on your wrist. It is fitted on a new 20mm black hand crafted deBeer Paris lizard grain strap with matching chromed steel buckle, a high quality band for a high quality watch. I have owned and sold a number of Gyromatic models over the years but this one strikes me as rather unusual, unique model – I hope its new owner will appreciate its distinct personality as well.

Of all the watches that I collect or sell, this is perhaps the only firm that needs little introduction…having built its business over the last century on high quality, innovation and style. The Rolex Watch Co. of Switzerland, its name (some say) short for “horlogerie exquise” was founded in 1908 by Hans Wilsdorf of Germany and brother-in-law Alfred Davis, first setting up shop in London. The early firm of “Wilsdorf & Davis” dealt primarily with the watch manufacturer Hermann Aegler to supply its movements but by 1919 Wilsdorf had established Manufacture des Montres Rolex - a time when the mechanisms were crafted in Bienne and the watches were hand-finished in Geneva. On average, more than 200 technicians are involved in producing a single Rolex wristwatch, quite remarkable.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following timepiece from the firm, a ladies ca 1960 TUDOR model in 18kt Solid Yellow Gold. Tudor, the sister brand to Rolex, was introduced by Hans Wilsdorf in 1935 and still commands a strong presence in the higher end wrist watch market.

Triple-signed, it measures a petite 23mm lug tip to lug tip and 17mm in width (18.8mm with crown). This works out to be just shy of 1 inch in length by 5/8 of an inch wide, not including the winding crown. My watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 17 jewel Tudor mechanism, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The silver, matte enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, the original that has been professionally restored (refinished). It features applied gold hour markers, original gold Lance-style hands and is signed TUDOR below the 12 marker.

The crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The two-piece case is 18 Karat Solid Yellow Gold and in excellent shape. The winding crown is a later replacement in excellent shape, operating smoothly.

Turning the watch over, I note that the back lid is solid 18kt gold and in excellent order, stamped reference number #1686. Peeking inside, I find a clean and original mechanism signed TUDOR – 17 RUBIES – SWISS MADE. The inside case lid is signed TUDOR - GENEVA SWITZERLAND - 18K, 0.750 – 505,694 with additional Swiss gold hallmarks as shown.

This petite vintage Tudor has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a new 8mm black lizard (grain) calf leather strap. Thank you for dropping by to view this listing and I hope you might place a bid.

Among watch collectors, the Omega Watch Co. of Switzerland, a firm founded by Louis Brandt of Biel in 1848, is one of the most renowned brands of timepieces. In 1894 a new caliber bore the name of Omega for the first time, and since then it has produced some of the finest caliber wristwatches money can buy. Omega is my favorite Swiss watch firm as well, combining those qualities of name brand recognition, high quality and relative value that are important to the seasoned watch collector.

Omega strongly reaffirmed its position as a collector’s brand in 2007 when Antiquorum held its “Omegamania” theme sale in Geneva, Switzerland. The prices realized vastly exceeded pre-auction estimates and set new records for many older models. Yes folks, good vintage Omega watches are only going UP in value.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following men's Omega timepiece, an excellent and all original GENEVE model from ca 1970 with a fantastic (and original) midnight blue dial. This watch features a high quality 601 caliber mechanism, one of the last Omega movements made in-house before they would contract with ETA.

Signed for Omega FIVE times (dial, crystal, crown, case and mechanism), it measures 41mm lug tip to lug tip and 35mm in width (37.2mm with original Omega-signed steel winding crown). This works out to be 1-5/8 inches long by 1-3/8 inches wide, not counting the crown. It has been fully serviced its original seventeen jewel, two adjustment manual wind mechanism and it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The 100% original midnight blue enamel finished dial is in excellent condition – untouched since it left the factory. In person this dial is really something, catching the light beautifully. Features include a 60 second white outer track, applied black and white hour markers, original black and white lacquered steel hands and an original ‘sweep’ orange center seconds hand. Signed OMEGA trademark Omega symbol below the 12 and Geneve above the 6 marker. It is further signed T SWISS MADE T at the base of the dial.

The original hardened acrylic crystal is in great to excellent condition (a few light scratches noted for accuracy). It is signed with the OMEGA symbol in the center – not visible to the naked eye but clearly seen when viewed with a magnifying loupe. The original Omega case is a solid stainless steel example in excellent shape, brushed/satin on the bezel and polished on the sides. The original Omega-signed steel winding crown is excellent as well, winding and setting smoothly.

Turning the watch over I find that the screw-down back lid is stainless steel and in excellent shape. This was a presentation watch and it is signed “Quebec Curling Club – Omega Trophy Winner 1972.” Peeking inside I find a spotless rose gold finished mechanism that is signed Omega Watch Co., Swiss - [Caliber] 601 – Seventeen 17 Jewels, Adjusted Two (2) Positions. The serial number is #29,905,565 – dating the watch to ca 1970 as per Omega production records. The inside of the case back is signed ACIER INOXYDABLE - OMEGA WATCH CO., FAB. SUISSE, SWISS MADE –– 135.041- 136.041.

This watch has been fully serviced so you can be assured that it winds and sets smoothly while keeping very accurate time. It comes fitted on new and high quality 18mm dark blue deBeer sport leather band with stainless buckle . Whether it be a Seamaster, Constellation or Geneve model, all watch lovers need to have at least one Omega in their collection. I think the blue dial on this one is fantastic with the orange seconds hand giving it a great retro “pop” on the wrist. And don’t forget, this one is entirely original, only the band is new.

I’ve always loved Bulova, an American company of great repute. It was founded by Czech immigrant Joseph Bulova and based in New York City, where the famous Bulova Observatory was located, high above a skyscraper on Fifth Avenue.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage all American made timepiece form the Bulova firm, a men’s sculpted caseExcellency” series model from 1958. This 14kt Solid Yellow Gold watch is in excellent condition and is also a scarcer model – this is the first time I have ever had one like it.

Quadruple- signed, it measures 38mm end to end and 23mm in width at its widest. This works out to be just over 1-1/2 inches long by just under 1 inch in width. My Bulova-trained watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 21 jewel, USA made manual wind mechanism, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The silver, matte enamel finished graphic design silver dial is in excellent condition, professionally restored to its original status. It features applied solid gold Arabic numerals and faceted square hour markers, original gold metal Baton-style hands and a round sub-seconds dial with sweep gold seconds hand. Signed BULOVA below the 12.

The new old stock solid glass crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The two- piece case is 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold and in excellent condition, complete with sculpted lugs and bezel – really nice. The original Bulova-signed matching gold winding crown is in excellent shape as well, winding and setting smoothly.

Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is also 14k solid gold and in excellent condition - signed “14K GOLD - BULOVA L8” with case number C739,304. The “L8” is Bulova’s date code for 1958. Taking a peek inside I find a clean Twenty One jewel manual wind movement, signed Bulova Watch Co., USA, 21 Jewels [Caliber] 8AC – L7. Having a case and movement dated one year apart is quite common for Bulova and I see this as often as I see matching years. The inside of the case lid is signed BULOVA – 14K GOLD – NEW YORK.

This original mid-century watch has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes fitted with a new 16mm black lizard grain, handcrafted DeBeer Paris strap with gold colored buckle for a fine combination. All in all a watch that deserves to be worn and shown off – if you think the pictures look nice you’ll be even more impressed with its in person.

                  • As my pal Cautious Carl says, "Buy a Nice Watch from Mike"….he was telling people to buy a watch from Dave but I increased the amount of Scooby snacks!

The following 1940s men’s timepiece is a very fine example of a unique, hermetic design screw case watch. It was made in Switzerland 75 years ago by the respected Tavannes Watch Co. of Switzerland, a firm that I have long held a high opinion for. This company made some of the finest, most forward thinking wristwatches of the first half of the 20th Century, on par with Omega and Longines in terms of design and quality. The firm was founded in the town of Tavannes in 1891 by H.F. Sandoz; it also produced watches under the Cyma name.

Triple-signed for Tavannes, this late 1940s military style watch with fancy hooded lugs features a Swiss patented (Brevet +) stainless steel hermetic case with four separate screws securing the back lid to the body. It measures 36mm lug tip to lug tip and 29mm in width (31mm with original steel crown). This works out to just over 1-3/8 inches in length by just over 1-1/8 inches in width, not counting the crown, a smaller ¾ size men’s watch by today’s standards, also called a “boy size” watch but not unusual for the period when men’s watches were much smaller than today. My watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 17 jewel, manual wind Tavannes mechanism, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The ivory color, matte enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, professionally restored/refinished to its original status. It features a 60 second outer track border calibrated to 1/5 of a second for precision, black enamel Arabic numerals, original dark blue (almost black) Dagger-style hands and an original ‘sweep’ RED center seconds hand. Signed TAVANNES below the 12 and SHOCK- ABSORBER above the 6. It is further signed SWISS MADE at the base of the dial.

The hardened acrylic crystal features a unique ledge edge (for water tightness) and is in excellent condition, a new old stock addition. The two- piece case is solid stainless steel and in excellent shape, complete with fancy hooded “block” lugs. The original domed winding crown is a matching stainless and excellent as well, operating smoothly.

Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is held in place via four separate screws that are placed at the base of each lug and positioned at an angle. This case back is in excellent condition and has not been polished, stamped with reference number 6237-1. Not wanting to open the case back up after my watchmaker serviced it I had him take photos of the mechanism and the inside of the back lid. The mechanism is a clean and higher quality example that is signed Tavannes Watch Co., Swiss – 17 Seventeen Jewels, Patents U.S., TXW. The inside of the case lid is stamped BREV. + NO. 189190 - TAVANNES WATCH CO., SWISS – ACIER STAYBRITE, 26502 . I did some research on this patent number (189190) and found the original patent drawings online. It appears that the case was designed and made by Schmitz Frères & Co SA, of Grenchen.

This watch has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. I have fitted a new 16mm matte black leather strap with stainless steel buckle (unmarked but from Hadley Roma). All in all a wonderful, unique watch that is also what I would call a “sleeper” – I think whoever finds this one and wins it is going to be quite happy.

                    • As my pal Cautious Carl says, "Buy a Nice Watch from Mike"….he was telling people to buy a watch from Dave but I increased the amount of Scooby snacks!

Founded by Ernest Francillon and Auguste Agassiz in the year 1832, the Longines Watch Co. of Switzerland was established in the “Long Meadows” (hence its name) near the town of St. Imier. Winner of countless horology awards, its wristwatches are among the best in the world, on par with firms such as Omega or Zenith and one of my personal favorites.

If you are a fan of “classic” design, higher grade watches the following ladies Art Deco era Longines model may be very appealing, a timeless Octagonal style with solid wire lugs that dates to 1926. This timepiece is 14kt White Gold Filled and features an excellent original dial and higher grade 15 jewel Longines mechanism.

It measures 25mm lug tip to lug tip and 21.5mm in width (23.5mm with crown). This works out to be 1 inch in length by 13/16 of an inch wide (without crown) and it is fitted on a matte black leather strap that will fit a wrist 5 inches to 6-3/4 inches in size. It has been fully serviced prior to auction and it winds and sets smoothly while keeping very good, accurate time.

The original sterling silver, matte enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, it has not been restored. It features elegant Breguet-style black enamel numerals, a 60 minute checkered outer track border and original blue steel, Spade-tip hands. Signed LONGINES below the 12 and SWISS at the base of the dial.

The solid glass crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The three-piece case is eight sided and with solid wire lugs (i.e., it does not use spring bars). It is in great overall shape with just a touch of brassing on two corners. The wire lugs are solid and secure while the matching winding crown is in excellent shape and operates as it should.

Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is in great condition, a couple tiny dings but no wear or personal engravings. Peeking inside I find a higher grade Fifteen jewel (8.28 ligne) manual wind movement that is signed 4,504,957 – Three [3] Adj – Fifteen [15] Jewels – Longines W. Co. - Swiss. This serial number corresponds to a ca 1926 production date. The inside of the original case lid is stamped Wadsworth Quality – 14K Gold Filled with case number below.

This fine timepiece has been cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a 10mm black leather strap with matching color buckle that I have modified to fit a wire lug watch and it is securely fastened and looks very nice on the wrist. All in all a very nice, elegant Art Deco timepiece from one of Switzerland’s better watch firms…I think you’ll be pleased.

My longtime favorite U.S. watch firm is the Elgin National Watch Company, a prolific American firm established in 1864 on 35 acres of land donated by the City of Elgin, Illinois (the factory had a National Street address). It was a strategic location, right next to the Galena and Chicago Union Railroad, one of the busiest railways into Chicago, and the Elgin factory would become the focal point of the town.

Elgin would offer its first watch for sale in 1867, marking the beginning of fierce competition with its chief competitor, Waltham, which (ironically) was instrumental in forming Elgin, as two of the original organizers were P.S. Bartlett and D.G. Currier of Waltham fame. Bartlett and Currier would later join the Illinois Watch Co. of Springfield.

If you are a flapper at heart and love all things Deco and the Jazz Age, this could be a must-have…an inlaid enamel bezel ladies Madame [Louise] Boulanger model from 1928, named after its famed Paris fashion designer (officially the name was “Louiseboulanger Parisienne”). This fully-signed, 14 karat white gold filled timepiece is in extra nice condition inside and out – complete with geometrically designed white & black enameling inlaid into the bezel.

In terms of the highly Art Deco Elgin watches made for women, the “Lady & Tiger” enameled case model is arguably the most sought-after, followed by a limited series of Parisienne models created for Elgin by noted French designers of the era, including LeLong, Agnes, Premet and Jenny – “all great Couturiers of the Rue de la Paix.”

Triple- signed for Elgin, it measures 30mm end to end and 17mm in width (19mm with original, engraved winding crown). In inches this works out to be 1-3/16” in length by 5/8 of an inch wide, not including the crown. It has been fully serviced by my skilled watchmaker David, ensuring its original manual wind Elgin USA mechanism winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The ivory color, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition and has been professionally restored to its correct original status. It features a 60 minute outer track border, black enamel painted numerals and original blued steel Fuseaux style hands. Signed ELGIN below the 12.

The solid glass crystal is in excellent, clear condition – flawless. The 14kt White Gold Filled case is a three-piece example in great to excellent order, complete with black & white geometric inlaid enameling in excellent overall shape, just a touch of wear and some small scratches. The original winding crown is a matching white gold with engraved & beaded detailing, what a beauty! It is in excellent order, winding and setting smoothly.

Turning the watch over, I note that the 14k White Gold filled back lid is in excellent order (one small ding) – with no other wear or engravings past or present. Peeking inside I find a clean and original Seven Jewel triplex type manual wind movement (Caliber 488, 18/0 Size) that is signed ELGIN – U.S.A with serial number # 32,304,112 – dating the watch to ca 1928 as per company production records. The inside of the case lid is signed Cased and Timed by Elgin National Watch Co. Keystone, J. Boss - 14K Gold Filled – 29,370.

This Madame Boulanger has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a 12mm (1/2 inch) matte black leather strap with fold-over ends designed for solid (wire) lug watches such as this. It will fit a wrist sized 5 inches to 6-3/4 inches in size thanks to the seven size holes. Thanks for taking a peek at this nice Art Deco Elgin – I hope you might place a bid!

                        • As my pal Cautious Carl says, "Buy a Nice Watch from Mike"….he was telling people to buy a watch from Dave but I increased the amount of Scooby snacks!

In its glory years from the 1920s through the 1940s, the Gruen Watch Company of USA & Switzerland was one of the leaders in wristwatch design and quality, even collaborating with Rolex (i.e., the Aegler movement duo-dial doctor’s watch) from its factories in Switzerland. Prior to WWII, Gruen was better known in the USA than Rolex, which at that time was concentrating on the British and Commonwealth countries (hence lots of early Rolexes coming out of Australia and the UK). Hans Wilsdorf and Gruen were friends and neighbors in Switzerland (their factories were just yards away), and even agreed to market their watches as Rolex Gruen in Europe, but the Great Depression (and more urgent matters) prevented this.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage men’s timepiece from the Gruen firm, an “Executive” model that dates to ca 1947. This has to be one of the more popular Curvex models and its 14kt Solid Yellow Gold faceted case matched with a fancy diamond dial are probably two strong reasons why. This model retailed for $200 when new, or the equivalent of $1,900 in today’s dollars…no small sum.

Quadruple-signed for Gruen, it measures 35mm end to end and 22mm in width (23.5mm with original crown), or 1-3/8 inches long by 7/8 of an inch wide, not counting the crown, a smaller men’s watch by today’s standards. My watchmaker David has fully serviced its original 440 caliber Curvex mechanism, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The black enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, professionally restored to its original status. It features a 60 minute outer track border, applied solid white gold (faceted) hour markers and raised rhodium set diamonds at the 12, 3 and 9 positions, original silver metal sword-style hands and a separate seconds dial with “sweep” seconds hand. Signed GRUEN CURVEX below the 12 and PRECISION above the seconds dial. It is further signed SWITZERLAND at the base of the dial, hard to see with the faceted, raised crystal.

Speaking of the crystal, it is the ORIGINAL faceted glass example – faceted just like the bezel of the watch. It is in excellent shape with just a couple tiny marks but I did not think of changing it as it is original. The two-piece, 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold case is in excellent shape, complete with faceted bezel sides, as shown. The original Gruen-signed yellow gold winding crown is in excellent shape, operating smoothly.

Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in great to excellent condition – free of any wear or engravings. It is stamped GRUEN 14K with case number as well. Peeking inside I find a barrel-shaped, Curved movement, signed Gruen Watch Co. - Seventeen 17 Jewels – Curvex Precision Pat.– Switzerland, GXC, [Caliber] 440. The inside of the case is signed Cased and Timed in USA by Gruen Watch Co., 14K Gold with the case maker initials WBO for William B. Ogush, formerly of Katz & Ogush (K&O).

This handsome Curvex Tank watch has been cleaned, oiled & regulated so it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes fitted with a new 16mm black deBeer Paris lizard (grain) calf leather strap with matching color buckle, ready to be worn and enjoyed…perhaps by you! Owning a vintage Gruen Curvex means you’re going to watch it goup in value while you enjoy owning and wearing it. Not a bad deal.

I am very happy to offer for sale the following vintage Elgin timepiece, a “Lady Elgin” 14kt Solid White Gold model that features a total of Forty (40) Genuine Diamonds of high clarity. Folks, my photos do not do this 1950s timepiece justice – one of the nicest vintage cocktail watches I have seen in some time and with the BEST ladies Elgin mechanism made in America, 23 jewels with 6 adjustments for temperature and all positions. Look at the lugs - stepped five times in the Art Deco style.

Its diamond encrusted white gold case measures 38.5mm end to end and 14.5mm in width (16mm with original crown). This converts to 1-1/2 inches long by 5/8 of an inch wide, including the crown, and it is fitted on its original white gold filled mesh bracelet that makes the overall length 7-1/2 inches, easily adjusted shorter, if required, before mailing to the winning bidder. It is powered by its original and high quality 830 caliber, 23 jewel USA manual wind movement that has been fully serviced to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The ivory color, enamel finished dial is in pristine condition, professionally restored to its original status and without flaw. It features applied white gold numerals and hour markers and original silver metal Lance-style hands. Signed LADY ELGIN 23 below the 12. The “Lady Elgin” series was the company’s top-of-the-line, counterpart to the “Lord Elgin” men’s models.

The solid glass crystal is in excellent shape and clear, removed in one or two photos to avoid glare and to clearly show the dial. The case is also in excellent condition, a striking Art Deco beauty that is 5x stepped down to the lug tips – what a classic Art Deco design. It is crafted of 14 Karat Solid White Gold and featuring 40 Genuine Diamonds of high clarity. The matching white gold finished winding crown is in excellent shape, operating smoothly.

Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in great to excellent shape, with a satin/brushed finish like the case sides. It is stamped 14K GOLD at one edge. Peeking inside I find a clean barrel- form movement with a patented “Durabalance” (only Patek Philippe did this balance design as well) signed Elgin 23 Jewels, [Caliber] 830 – 6 Adj. The inside of the case back is stamped the serial number.

This lovely timepiece has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted with its original 10kt white gold filled mesh cord bracelet with matching color fittings that measures a total maximum length of 7-1/2 inches. If you need the band shortened just let me know and I’ll have it custom sized before I mail it, no charge. Well then, who is going to be the new owner of this beautiful, 40 diamond Lady Elgin? A very happy lady I do believe!

If you have been collecting vintage watches for some time now you will be well aware of the high quality and handsome designs of the Angelus Watch Co., S.A. of Switzerland. It was established in 1901 as “Angelus, Stolz Freres” by Gustave Stolz (1872-1942) and his brother Albert (1869 – 1945). Winning a “Grand Prix” at the Swiss National Exhibition in Berne (1914) they quickly became known for its repeaters with complications, chronographs, alarms and travel clocks. They are also one of my favorite Swiss watch firms, somewhat of a “sleeper” brand like Mido, Helvetia and Doxa.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage timepiece from the firm, a men’s DATALARM 21 jewel model that dates to ca 1956 (the year the above advertisement was released). The model name speaks directly to this watch’s unique combination of a date aperture and an alarm function – unusual for most vintage alarm watches of the period. I can’t emphasize enough the excellent original condition of this watch, it’s like it was stored away for the last 60 plus years. Did you notice the dial and the alarm BELL in the center? How cool is that.

Triple-signed, it measures 42mm lug tip to lug tip and 35mm in width (37mm with crowns). This works out to be 1-5/8 inches long by just over 1-3/8 inches wide, not counting the alarm crown and winding/setting crown. Its original 21 jewel, manual wind Swiss mechanism with twin mainspring barrels has been fully serviced by my skilled watchmaker David and it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The 100% original silver, enamel finished dial is in flawless condition – guaranteed to be untouched since it left the factory. It features a 60 second inner chapter, applied silver hour markers, original silver steel Dauphine-style hands, a semi-quickset DATE window at the 3 position and ‘sweep’ original silver seconds hand. Signed ANGELUS below the 12 marker and DATALARM 21 RUBIS above the 6 marker. It is further signedSWISS at the base. Note the alarm BELL in the center – in silhouette against a contrasting silver background.

The hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent condition. The three-piece case is solid stainless steel and in excellent PLUS shape. There are two crowns on this watch. The bottom crown winds the watch and sets the time like a conventional crown would do. The top crown is used to wind the alarm and adjust the alarm hand (the hand moves backwards). To “set” the alarm you then pull the top crown out. This alarm function works great folks and it buzzes nicely!

Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is a screw-down, stainless steel example in excellent condition (one pinprick mark) and free of any wear or engravings. It is stamped ANGELUS 10/11. Unscrewing the separate bezel ring reveals a clean and higher-grade, 21 jewel manual wind mechanism. It is stamped with caliber number AS 1475 below the balance wheel. This A. Schild mechanism was produced from 1954 to 1970 (with modifications) and the original specifications show it as having a 46 hour power reserve and a frequency of f = 18000 A/h.

This immaculate Angelus Datalarm has been completely disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly and keeps accurate time. The alarm function very well and has an audible “buzz” too! It comes complete with a new 18mm black deBeer Paris handcrafted lizard (grain) calf leather strap with matching buckle. All in all an amazing, all original watch from a respected, collectible maker that you just don’t often see…if you like it’s looks I suggest you place a bid as I would bet good money that I’ll never find another as nice in my lifetime.

                                • Rubber and silicone deployment/deployant clasp divers (solid color, contrast-stitched and textured).

                              • As my pal Cautious Carl says, "Buy a Nice Watch from Mike"….he was telling people to buy a watch from Dave but I increased the amount of Scooby snacks!

Founded in 1892, the Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, PA would not officially start its watch production until March 1894, having first chosen the name Columbian Watch Co. but this name was already copyrighted by the Waterbury Co. The name "Hamilton" was derived from Lancaster’s founding father, Mr. Andrew Hamilton, a Scottish-born attorney who was instrumental in the growth of Lancaster.

By 1908 Hamilton was producing a lady’s pendant watch and during the WWI period a small line of military style watches were available for men. Hamilton never looked back, arguably producing the highest quality American made watches from the 1920s through the 1960s.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage Hamilton timepiece, a men's Rodney model – first introduced by the firm in 1953. This example is in excellent original condition – the Butler finished, enamel dial has not been touched since it left the Hamilton factory.

Triple-signed for Hamilton, its 10kt Yellow Gold filled, fancy lug case measures a long 44mm end to end and 34.5mm in width (36.5mm with crown). In inches this works out to be 1-3/4" long by 1- 3/8" wide, not counting the winding crown. It is powered by its original and high quality 18 jewel, Hamilton USA manual wind mechanism, fully serviced to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The 100% original two-tone silver, butler enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, untouched since it left the factory and original to this watch. It features a 60 second outer track calibrated to 1/5 of a second for precision, applied 18k Solid Gold Arabic numerals, original gold metal Leaf-style hands and a ‘sweep’ center seconds hand. Signed HAMILTON below the 12.

The new old stock hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The two-piece case is 10 Karat Yellow Gold filled and the bezel/body is in excellent shape. I particularly like the faceted, elongated lugs – making this a very long watch and perhaps (technically), one of the longest Hamilton made if you are basing it on lug tip to lug tip. The unmarked winding crown is a matching yellow gold and in excellent shape, winding and setting smoothly.

Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is 10kt yellow gold filled and stamped “HAMILTON” at one edge. It is in excellent condition with absolutely no wear or engravings. Inside I find a fully service, high grade American mechanism that is signed Hamilton [Grade] 748, Adjusted – 18 Jewels, USA. The inside case lid is further signed RODNEY, HAMILTON W. CO. – LANCASTER, PA, 10K GOLD FILLED with case number below. The “S&W” stands for Schwab & Wuischpard, a well-respected case maker of the 1940s through today.

This watch has been completely disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure watch winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. Comes complete with a new 16mm matte black crocodile (grain) calf leather strap with gold finished buckle for a superb look. A very handsome, fancy faceted lug timepiece that my photos don’t quite do justice – I think you’ll be very happy when you get this one in the mail.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following Gruen timepiece, an original Guildite Stainless Steel “Pan American” model in excellent condition. This is a lesser seen ladies PILOT model from ca 1946 and I believe I’ve only had one other like it before – fewer were originally sold hence fewer remain today.

Now about the Pan American model line. There was a glamorous mystique to aviation and airplane travel in the 1940s, and Gruen ran several ads showing pictures of their Pan Am pilot's watch with the famous Pan American Clipper flying boat. Originally, these watches were supplied only to the airline and were not actually available for civilian use—the ads were run to create customer awareness of these watches, which Gruen had big plans for once WWII ended.

In October 1945 an advertisement stated that the Pan American line would go on sale to the public. The company believed that postwar consumers would make increasing use of 24-hour time, especially for airline travel. They also reasoned that, having just come through a major war, many people would have become accustomed to military time and could easily make the transition. Gruen published several articles in their dealer newsletters praising the advantages of dials indicating "the 24 hours of the air-world day," and advising retailers to stock up on Pan Americans to meet the anticipated demand.

The company offered the Pan American in a number of models and variations, in Guildite (steel), gold filled and solid gold cases, for both men and women, and with a variety of lug and case shapes. There were also two-tone versions and versions with square cases and dials. There were a variety of dials as well, but just like the original pilot's watches, they all share common features: a 24-hour dial with an inner 13-24 chapter ring and a red sweep seconds hand.

This triple- signed model is all Swiss Made (vs. being cased in the USA) and features a solid stainless steel case, my personal favorite. It measures 27mm end to end and 21mm in width (23.5mm with winding crown) or just over 1 inch long by 13/16 of an inch wide, not including the crown. It is powered by its original 210 caliber, 17 jewel manual wind Gruen Veri-Thin mechanism that has been fully serviced by my watchmaker David to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The 100% original two tone ivory and silver color dial is in great to excellent condition and has not been touched since it left the factory 65 years ago. It features a silver & black 60 second outer chapter, raised yellow gold numbers and hour markers, a 24 Hour inner dial (one scratch across the number 24), original blue steel hands and a dark RED original ‘sweep’ center seconds hand. Signed GRUEN VERI-THIN below the 12 and “PRECISION” above the number 18. It is further signed SWITZERLAND at the base of the dial.

The new old stock domed acrylic crystal is excellent, clear condition. The two-piece case is Solid Stainless Steel and in excellent shape, very clean and sharp. The winding crown is unmarked but I believe it to be original. It winds and sets very smoothly.

Turning the watch over I see that the screw-down back lid is in excellent condition and free of any wear or engravings, perhaps a couple small scratches. It is stamped GRUEN 112,361 . Peeking inside I find a clean Seventeen Jewel 210 Caliber movement that is signed Gruen Watch Co., Seventeen 17 Jewels – Precision – Veri Thin – Patented – Switzerland, GXC. The inside case lid is signed GRUEN WATCH CO., GUILDITE – SWITZERLAND, 361.

This watch has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It comes fitted on a new10mm black alligator (grain) hand crafted calf leather strap with matching chrome steel buckle. All in all beautifully preserved, high collectible Pan Am for that collector who is just itching to add this rare and original model to his or her collection.
