Teague NJHS Candidate Form

Teague middle school NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY SELECTION CANDIDATE PACKET BEFORE YOU COMPLETE THE CANDIDATE PACKET FOR NJHS SELECTION, PLEASE UNDERSTAND: NJHS selection of seventh and eighth graders is based on the following five (5) separate (but equal!) areas of eligibility. You must be able to show ALL FIVE areas in order to obtain membership. 1) Scholarship - 3.6 cumulative GPA. You have already met this criterion. 2) Leadership - Evidence of leadership roles in the school and/or community and/or work and involvement in school organizations and activities MUST be shown. 3) Community Service - need to show a commitment to community service, at a minimum 5 hours. (Community service = volunteer activities that you do NOT get paid for. A student assistant class, singing in a choir, etc. does not count towards the community service commitment.) 4) Character –is determined by teacher recommendations, your attendance, tardy and disciplinary referral history. Please note that a referral for cheating will automatically disqualify your candidacy. 5) Citizenship- Candidates must participate in at least one ongoing club or activity that they have been involved in before the selection process began. The club or activity may be school based, or it may take place outside of school. Evidence MUST be shown. YOU MUST SHOW STRENGTH IN ALL 5 OF THESE AREAS OF ELIGIBILITY IN ORDER TO BE SELECTED FOR TEAGUE’S NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP. Also, before completing the candidate forms, please consider carefully the commitment that NJHS will require.

1. Students are expected to maintain a GPA of 3.6 or above.

2. Students are expected to attend two meetings per month. Students are excused from two (2) meetings without a note from the parent. If an emergency arises after two missed meetings, students must notify the adviser and submit a note from the parent explaining the absence.

3. Students are expected to participate in at least one group service project with the Teague Middle School NJHS Chapter. (At least three opportunities will be offered during the school year, and students must attend one.)

4. Each member shall have the responsibility for choosing and participating in an individual service project(s) that reflects his or her particular talents and interests. This should consist of 10 hours of service. This is in addition to the chapter project to which all members contribute. Service hours MUST be started after the induction ceremony (for new inductees) and completed by the end of the school year, that is (November –May). Please note that up to five of the ten hours can be school based. Students must show proof by completing the Teague NJHS Community Service Verification Form and submitting it to the chapter adviser.

5. Annual dues for our chapter is $10. The Teague National Junior Honor Society meets every other Thursday of the month. We meet from 4-5PM in the Media Center.
