Educational Talent Search Expectations

Mission… The mission of Educational Talent Search (ETS) is to prepare students to complete secondary school (high school) and to enroll in and graduate from post-secondary school (college, vo-tech, or trade school)

Educational Talent Search Guidance Specialists (Counselors) are expected to: 1. Provide students with career and college information 2. Provide study skills and academic advising 3. Provide information on federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs 4. Provide access to financial literacy 5. Provide information and access to tutoring services

Educational Talent Search students are expected to: 1. Meet with your ETS Guidance Specialist regularly (at least twice per school year) 2. Attend school regularly and be on time 3. Achieve and maintain a strong grade point average, minimally a C- in academic classes 4. Participate in class by being an active listener and taking part in discussions 5. Complete all homework assignments on time 6. Discuss the school day with parents/guardians 7. Talk to teachers and ETS Guidance Specialist about academic concerns 8. Participate in ETS meetings and other activities such as college visits and career explorations 9. Adhere to school and ETS behavior guidelines when participating in any ETS sponsored event

Parents can help their child by: 1. Arranging for a well-lighted quiet place for daily study and homework completion 2. Limiting television viewing and phone use Monday through Thursday 3. Limiting “free” time on the computer 4. Encouraging time each day be spent on reviewing school subjects and reading for pleasure 5. Talking to your child about their school day 6. Maintaining regular communication with the school and ETS personnel 7. Attending Educational Talent Search Parent Nights

Educational Talent Search is…

 a federally funded educational opportunity program.  offered to eligible students at no cost.  a way to help your student obtain the goal of attending college.

Educational Talent Search is NOT…

 a scholarship or grant making institution.  to be confused with a talent show for artistic/musical abilities. ETS is for eligible students who have the academic potential and personal desire to attend an educational institution upon graduating from high school.

A student who qualifies for this program benefits by…

 receiving fee waivers for college admissions applications and ACT testing. The average student saves about $300.  receiving individual guidance and information on colleges, careers, financial aid, study skills, tutoring, and much more!

 as soon as possible. Please note: You must enclose your federal tax forms from 2014 to determine eligibility for the ETS program.
