Mortar Board Applicant

Mortar Board Applicant:

Thank you for taking the time to fill out this application. The effort you put into it will provide us with valuable details about your potential dedication to Mortar Board. The essay questions will play an especially important role in the application process, as it is your best chance to distinguish yourself from the other applicants. There is no interview for admittance, so we must get to know you through your writing alone.

Mortar Board National Senior Honor Society is built on three pillars: scholarship, leadership, and service. Members of Mortar Board must epitomize all three pillars, both before and during their time in Mortar Board. As we evaluate your application, we will be considering the breadth and depth of your experiences as they relate to each pillar. How well you exemplify each of the pillars will serve as the criterion for acceptance.

Mortar Board puts on UA events like Homecoming King Selections, All-Honorary Philanthropy, Faculty Tea, Evening of Excellence, and others that you and your group decide to initiate. The Mortar Board National Senior Honorary and our chapter are also committed to improving literacy, especially through service with elementary schools. Mortar Board requires dedication during your senior year, but you must balance your Mortar Board duties with class work and your other campus involvement.

Unlike other campus clubs, Mortar Board is a national organization with a vast alumni network and support. Once you join, you are always a member. After graduation, you may become an active alumnus or alumna in the organization. Many alumni are important figures in today’s world, including retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor and Hospice Movement founder Josefina Magno.

Applications are due by 4 p.m. on Friday, February 23, in the club drop box at the ASUA office. You must have at least a 3.2 GPA to be eligible for Mortar Board. You will be notified of acceptance by the end of March 2007.
