How to Take Care of Your Child

How to Take Care of Your Child: Physical, Intellectual, Social and Emotional Development Unit 5: Safety (Mid Term Project) 50 Points Total Now that you have been studying the development of a child for a few months now, we need to check your comprehension of the material to see what you have learned so far! For this project you will become Child Development Specialists and work with a partner to create a pamphlet on a specific topic related to Child Development. This brochure should look very professional and be creative enough to catch the eye of a parent sitting in a doctor’s office or at a daycare center. You may choose from one of the topics listed below:

 Feeding

o Bottle vs. Breast Feeding

o Baby Food

o Nutritional Meals and Snacks

 Safety

o Car Seat Information

o Home Safety

o Child Abuse

 Clothing

o Types of Clothing

o Clothing Safety

o Disposable vs. Cloth Diapers

 Health

o Common Childhood Illnesses

o Immunizations

o Doctor Check Ups  Education

o Toys for Children

o Reading to Your Children

o Suggested Books or Authors

o Games for Children

 Sleep

o Bedtime—Sleep Patterns

o Crib Safety

o Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

 Social/Emotional

o Temper Tantrums

o How Children Play

o Making Friends

Idea topics are only suggestions. You might decide on another area you are interested in and want to research. If so, check with Mrs. Brennan to make sure the topic is appropriate for this project.

Remember:

 Your brochure needs to look professional enough to be used in a doctor’s office or day care center.

 You will need to identify THREE SOURCES you used in your research. Cite these sources on the back cover of your brochure

 You will also need to make a short presentation of your information to the class.

 Remember you are the Child Development Expert so you should NOT just read from your pamphlet, but instead you are educating us on your topic.

o Tell us about things you did not know before you did this project.

o Be Ready for Questions from the Audience!
