Ms. Angela T. Gabaldon Room 212 Class Syllabus: Contact: 505-966-1300 [email protected] www.orgsites.com/nm/atgabaldonbhs

2013-2014: Welcome! This is the first year Belen High School is implementing the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). In order to ensure ALL mathematic classes are providing rigorous curriculum of concepts, there will be scheduled department tests every 5th or 6th-week (end-of-grading period). Because all material will be covered in depth, none of the quizzes or tests in this class will be open book or notes (one or two may occur, but it will be rare). In order to succeed it is recommended that students attend class regularly (math is linear and each step depends upon the previous), take notes, complete assignments with care, study, and if it is needed schedule tutoring.

Grades: A = 100% - 90% B = 89% - 80% C = 79% - 70% D = 69% - 60% F = 59% and below ---Do NOT assume that grades will ever be curved. As per school policy, if absent, students will have the responsibility of retrieving missed notes and/or assignments from another student, teacher, or school web site (scan the qr code). One-for-one day make-ups will be allowed for absences. Parents will be contacted if absences exceed 5 unexcused. Assignments will be maintained in a binder on Ms. Gabaldon’s desk as well. Classroom Policy: In order to stay far to ALL students, assignments turned in late will lose additional 5% off the grade every day late (Example: an assignment that is normally 100% would only be graded as 60% if the paper is turned in 8 school days late). Students will be signing documentation when assignments are given as well as on the date the assignment is due/turned in for grading. Student Progress: Students receive a weekly Newsletter which will summarize the current week’s progress as well as provide a preview of the next week’s schedule. It will also individually provide information on: Attendance, Grade (assignments, quizzes, & tests) & Self-discipline. (Algebra I, Geometry, & Algebra II. Finance Literacy: choice of student unless at risk)

Students who are risk will receive paperwork recommending Tutoring. When it is returned with the assignment, the student will earn 15% extra credit on the assignment. [Form of counseling will be entirely up to the student: Peer (MESA), teacher one-on-one, or program such as BEST or Jump Start] An adult facilitator’s signature with title will be required to confirm compliance. Class Scheduling: This year, BHS is returning to the Block Schedule, every class will be meeting for 90-minutes. Students will be given short breaks in the middle of the class period to go for water or the restroom. Passes will only be granted for special considerations such as appointments, known medical, or emergencies. NO: (unless specifically arranged/approved) 1. Electronics in classroom a. Cell phones b. Mp3 players c. i-pads or tablets 2. Food OR Drinks 3. Students MUST abide by school dress code at all times (THIS is NON-NEGOTIABLE)

VIOLATIONS: Electronics will never be stored in Ms. Gabaldon’s desk. If confiscation is required, a referral will be written as Defiance of classroom & school policy & the device will be given to the office. Parent interest in their child’s academic progress is encouraged. They are more than welcome to contact me at any time at the above listed contact methods
