Chuck Trimble, Murphy Graves Timble, addressed the board regarding the cost of a new auxiliary gym vs. re- purposing the existing indoor pool (building #7). The cost of refurbishing the pool in building #7 would be $1,676,399.00. This would include new windows, dehumidification system, new lighting, etc. The pool is used from mid-September through mid-February each year. Several districts also utilize Ashland’s pool each season. Mr. Trimble was asked by the board about the pool’s safety “as is” and Mr. Trimble responded that there is a bolt that needs ground down where the diving board used to be and that there are some missing tiles on the pool steps that need replaced. Mr. Trimble stated that the dehumidification system is the most important so as to cut down the mold issues. Russell’s swim coach Jennifer Daniels asked to address the board and asked them to consider the impact swimming has on the students by giving them a place to fit in. Superintendent Gilmore assured all of those in attendance that the board always has the best interest of the students at heart. Mr. Gilmore also reiterated that the board strives to be the best stewards with taxpayer money, with student safety as the number one priority and also providing the best environment in which to learn. He then thanked all those in attendance regarding the pool.

Order # 405 Per KRS 61.810(1)(b), it was moved by Charlie Chatfield and seconded by Executive Session Chris Clarke at 11:38 a.m. to move into executive session to discuss the sale of 1420 Central Avenue property.

The board reconvened at 11:56 a.m. with no action taken.

Mr. Trimble then discussed the usage of Alumni Gym. Once the tuck pointing is finished, the “skin” of Alumni and roof will be in pretty good shape. To fully renovate Alumni inside and out would cost between $1.8 - $1.9 million. There are several options that would be of lesser cost however, that the board could consider, such as renovating the stage to be used for practices or a possible home for the wrestling team. Mr. Trimble will look into costs of these options and present to the board at a later date.
