Minutes 12/14/06

Present: Megan, Alex, Jill, Brett, Amanda (the 1st year rep) Absent: Anna

Meeting with KABM - Megan is going to speak to Barbara about scheduling something for early January

Database for graduating students: - Jill and Anna are working with the office on this. Jill is going to try and get someone else to finish making the database she began so we’ll be able to use it as a tool for our alternate careers project. Maybe she can get the office to hire someone. - The career center website has a database you can search. Jill is going to get the info up on our website about this so people can access it

Progress Reports - Jill is going to ask Andrew to put the movies on a CD instead of on the web, since many people are having trouble accessing the information - Megan is going to email Barbara to get the copy code for Xeroxing the feedback forms

Courses - Megan is going to give the faculty a sample application taken from another university for the post doc courses - Audrey is willing to teach the writing course both semesters, which should handle some of the demand problem. We’ll bring this up at our big meeting with KABM

Art - People really enjoyed this. Anna is working on getting the pictures we have framed and hung around Mudd hall

Alternate Careers project - Jill and Alex are working with the career center to get a seminar by them here and booklets and just to get things going in general - Audrey Huang is available in late January early February. Megan is going to try and schedule things for the 24th of January, a Wednesday, and book Mudd 23 and Mudd 100 for the event - Brett will talk to Karen about getting pizza and beer for the event

Awards - We’d like to get an award series like they have at the medical school going, at Samer’s request. The idea is we’d have students apply with a small abstract to a group of faculty members who would pick a winner post doc and a winner grad student. We could have the people speak during the normal Thursday afternoon seminar spot. Megan will work on fleshing this out.

Staff Award - We should nominate Joan again this year. Need to find out when the awards are given.
