Rusthall enter the Challenge. The Beacon Scheme

Rusthall Scouts win the Trophy for the Beacon Scheme competition run by the Rusthall Rover Crew. Summer Camp Elmer Sands, Nr Bognor Regis 8th – 15th August

The Troop returns to camp in the area after a gap of 53 years. In 1910 and 1911 the St Paul’s Incorporated Church Scouts camped just two miles away at Felpham.

The camp had a number of ‘occasional visitors’ who stayed for one to three nights, including Rev. Denys (‘Con’) Crouch, curate of St Paul’s Rusthall and his youngest son – who just loved wearing the Scout ‘lemon squeezer’ hat whenever he could find one lying around.

The camp was visited by the DC for Bognor, Mr G N Shann who reported as folows:

a) The Camping Standard – Excellent. Plenty of tentage and equipment. I particularly liked the altar fires. b) Scouting Activities - Seniors arranging the programme on Monday etc. Bathing, church, games etc. Camp fire firewod brought. Outing to Arundel on Thursday.Mr Boxall Jnr had everything well arranged

The Kent Rover Scouts County Hike Challenge September 1964

Eleven teams from the county including two from Rusthall Rover Crew entered this competition, held in the xxxx area of Kent. Unfortunately, one of the Rusthall teams along with three other teams had to withdraw. However, the Rusthall ‘A’ team came fourth, scoring 66½ out of 100. The competition was won by Dover District Rover Crew with 84½ points. The runners up were Tunbridge Wells District Rover Crew who scored 76 points and the 5th Deal Crew were third with 69½points. October British Scouts' first visit to Japan.

November The Gang Show in the Royal Variety Performance for the third time.
