Pathways’ emphasis is on technology skills and their application into five areas: Gaming and App Development (Computer Animation, Programming Immersive Game Environments, Mobile Application Design Web Design, and Video Game Design), Computer Science (Networking, Database Development, AP Computer Science), Gaming & APP Development (Innovation & Invention, Robotics I and II, Entrepreneurship, Advanced Manufacturing), Digital Media & Video (Digital Video & Media, Sound Production, Music Technology, TV Production), and Design (Fundamentals of Design, Graphic Design, Advanced Design Portfolio, and Advanced Art).

School and Community  Pathways Academy is a Hartford district magnet high school that first began as a program at Hartford Public High School 13 years ago.  It has existed as a separate high school and state-approved magnet school since the 2003-2004 school year.  The school is located in East Hartford, CT, but remains a Hartford District Magnet School.  Pathways was named the Top Secondary Magnet School by Magnet Schools of America in 2014 and has been recognized since 2012 as a NAF Distinguished Academy and also as a Magnet School of America School of Excellence and Distinction.  Currently, students from 50 surrounding towns attend Pathways Academy.  September 1, 2017 Enrollment: 427 Total Suburban Students 211 49% Hartford Students 216 51%  September 1, 2017 Ethnic Breakdown: Black 30 % Hispanic 42 % Caucasian 24 % Multi-Racial 3 % Asian 1 %  September 1, 2017 Grade Breakdown: 9th = 120 students 10th = 109 students 11th = 103 students 12th = 95 students Course Levels All courses at Pathways Academy are taught at the Academic or Honors level. We offer AP classes in Biology, Language & Composition, Literature & Composition, and Computer Science. Students have also had the opportunity to receive college credit through Goodwin College and additional partnership programs. Special Education students may receive level modifications and accommodations. Students are ranked. Pathways has block scheduling and operates on a full-year calendar.

Technology Education Includes: Industry Advisory Board and Business Communications Work-Based Learning Introduction to Digital Video & Media The Pathways Academy Industry Advisory Board Introduction to Programming serves as advisors to Pathways Academy of Introduction to Music Technology Technology and Design. The board includes Introduction to Web Design business partner co-chairs, along with a NAF Digital Video & Media affiliate, parents, teachers, and higher education Sound Production and business partners with backgrounds in Music Technology curriculum development, teaching, and fiscal TV Production expertise. Advanced TV Production Advanced Sound Production The primary role of the Board is to provide Web Design industry-based guidance in the accomplishment Mobile Application Design of Pathways’ vision. The Board is a resource for 3D Modeling & Animation mentors, internships, experiential learning, Introduction to Networking curriculum advice, as well as current industry Programming needs. Robotics Immersive Game Environments All students at Pathways participate in work-place Video Game Design readiness training and have an opportunity to Design of the User Experience secure an internship through resume preparation Database and interviewing. Past internships have included: Innovation & Invention NFTE website design & maintenance, I.T. Advanced Manufacturing troubleshooting & support, digital media & Fundamentals of Design graphic design, and administrative projects. Graphic Design During 2017, nearly 125 Pathways students had Advanced Art paid internships across 26 locations, including Advanced Design Portfolio Aetna, Travelers, the Hartford, CT Science Center, AP Computer Science Hartford Healthcare, CPEP, Pratt & Whitney, Advanced Networking CISCO Neighborhood Studios, and more.
