OVERVIEW and ELIGIBILITY The Sister Elise Grant Fund is a small grant fund that could be available to a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization where a Sister of Charity of Cincinnati is actively involved as a paid staff member, board member and/or regular volunteer for at least six months. Prudent and fiscally responsible governance and management of the nonprofit organization must be evident. Requests for the Sister Elise Grant Fund are initiated by the Sister of Charity of Cincinnati through dialogue with the nonprofit organization’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The request must be consistent with the mission of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati and the mission, operational needs and strategic goals of the requesting organization. LIMITATIONS – SC Ministry Foundation normally will not consider funding for:  Major capital expenditures such as construction, acquisition  Event sponsorships without current Sister of Charity of or renovation of facilities, equipment or major technology Cincinnati involvement (limited $ amounts)  Ongoing operations, overhead, operational deficits or  Partisan political advocacy or for lobbying purposes debt reduction  Programs or projects that result in duplication of  Endowments or scholarships services  Projects where the Foundation would be the principal source  Organizations or projects that use grant funds to make of support grants to other organizations  Grants to individuals, units of government or  Projects that fall outside the ethical and religious government agencies directives of the Catholic Church  Programs in public schools including colleges and  Speakers whose expressed views do not promote the universities, Catholic schools or parishes, hospitals, or mission and ministry of the Sisters of Charity of churches that do not have a current association with the Cincinnati Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati  Raffles, bingo or gambling-related activities  Annual appeals, membership drives, or fundraising campaigns In addition, grants from the Sister Elise Grant Fund may not be requested for capacity building, sponsorships, core programs, or sustainable new or expanded programs, as there are other Foundation funding channels for these needs. YOU NEED TO KNOW… If awarded to the nonprofit organization, grant funds must be used for the specific request identified in the Sister Elise Grant Fund application. The authority and accountability for all requests to the Sister Elise Grant Fund rests with the nonprofit’s CEO. Undue influence may not be exerted in the use of funds, either by the Sister of Charity of Cincinnati or the CEO of the nonprofit. Supplies or minor equipment funded through the request become the property of the nonprofit organization. The Sister Elise Grant may not be used to fund a Sister of Charity of Cincinnati’s salary or benefits. Due to our fiduciary and stewardship responsibility, SC Ministry Foundation reserves the right to approve or decline all requests. Any grant dollars awarded through this fund will be included in the total dollars awarded to an organization. WHEN ARE APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED AND PROCESSED? Grant requests may be submitted at any time throughout the year. Evaluation and processing of each request requires a minimum of 30 business days. ANNUAL GRANT AMOUNT PARAMETERS A. Nonprofit Organization: The following table provides the maximum Sister Elise Grant Fund amounts per Sister of Charity of Cincinnati for an individual organization, based on annual operating expenses of the nonprofit organization. Sister of Charity: A Sister of Charity of Cincinnati may participate in requests up to $3,000/year* related to the Sister Elise Grant Fund regardless of the number of nonprofit organizations with which she is actively involved.
