Dear 5th Grade Parents, February 27, 2012
We are now about 8 weeks away from the time your child will be taking the state mandated 5th Grade Ohio Achievement Assessment. We have been working hard to make sure your child is ready for these tests and are confident our students will perform well.
In order to be ready for the math portion of the test, we have developed 8 different Jeopardy games for your child to complete at home. A number of the questions are taken directly from previous fifth grade math achievement assessments and will give your child a good idea of what is expected. Because it would be helpful if you have an idea of the concepts that are on the test, we would like your child to play the game with you each week. A new Jeopardy game will be available every week for the next 8 weeks (beginning today, Monday, February 27).
These Jeopardy games will be assigned homework in every fifth grade class during the next two months. After playing the game with you, all we ask is that your child turn in a signed form from you indicating that the game was played. You can even tell us the final score of the game! We have attached the first form to this letter and your child can get additional forms from us throughout the next two months as they are needed. You can also download a form off our website and print it from your home computer.
The directions for downloading the Jeopardy games are on the back of this paper . You do need to have access to Microsoft Powerpoint in order to download the games. If you do not have access to Powerpoint at home, you can access it at the Aurora Library, or at any of the school libraries. Please let your child’s teacher know if you will have a problem accessing the games.
We do ask that a parent, grandparent, or other adult sit and play the computer game with the student. We know that, because of parent and student schedules, it is sometimes difficult to find enough time to play. However, we feel that by playing with your child, you will have a greater understanding of the concepts your child is expected to know.
As your child plays the games, he or she may have questions about some of the concepts involved. If so, please make sure your child asks his or her math teacher for additional help.
If you have any questions about playing the game, or the math concepts involved, please do not hesitate to ask! The 5th Grade Teachers
