Description: Poison Awareness Week is from March 15-21, 2016. The total cost of unintentional poisoning was estimated to be $1.26 billion for Canada in 20101. Unintentional poisoning is one of the leading causes of injury among children. It is estimated that seven children age 14 years and under die every year in Canada from poisoning. In addition, another 1,700 are hospitalized for serious injuries2. Preventing unintentional poisoning is crucial.
This webinar will: examine PADIS phone calls in Saskatchewan
learn about the poison awareness campaign created by the Injury Prevention Centre
discuss the goal of the poison awareness campaign
outline the challenges and limitations of the current campaign
Speaker’s information: Rosalie Loveless is an Outreach Coordinator at the Poison and Drug Information Service (PADIS). The Poison and Drug Information Service is a multidisciplinary team of experts specially trained in poisons, toxins, drugs, and medications. Patti Stark is the Community Mobilization Coordinator at the Injury Prevention Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. This provincial organization focuses on reducing catastrophic injury and death in Alberta. The goal of the Centre is to raise awareness about preventable injuries as an important component of life-long health and wellness.
