Survival Analysis Using Spss

SURVIVAL ANALYSIS USING SPSS Friday 9th June 2017, 1.30pm – 5.00pm Please RSVP by Monday 22nd May

Workshop Presenter Prof. Max Bulsara Chair in Biostatistics, Institute for Health Research, University of Notre Dame Australia, Fremantle

Survival/time-to-event analysis is appropriate when the outcome of interest is an event and that event has not occurred for everyone in the dataset. For this type of event-time data, ordinary regression analysis won’t do the job. The outcome can be death, recurrence of tumor, recovery from an illness, task completion, failure of equipment etc.

The simplest analysis is the log-rank test that assesses differences according to a single factor. Cox proportional hazards regression is appropriate to investigate the rate at which the event occurs according to several potential predictors.

Target Audience This is an intermediate level workshop. This workshop is suitable for researchers, academics, doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, service staff and HDR students, who want to understand concepts and techniques of statistical modelling of event history data and intends to use SPSS software to analyse their data. This workshop would suit people currently involved in, or about to start, postgraduate study and other researchers who wish to expand their quantitative research skills into regression methods.

Pre-requisites This is a follow-up to the Introduction to Logistic Regression using SPSS workshop. It assumes a good working knowledge of SPSS and regression methods.

Aim This workshop gives an introduction to time-to-event (survival) data for non-statisticians, and covers the following topics:

· Use of Kaplan-Meier · Cox regression analyses · Hazard ratios · How to set the data up for analysis · Test for interactions in the models · Assessing model fit · Interpretation of SPSS output

Teaching Method Presentation, lecture, demonstration, hands-on exercises, question and answer sessions, discussions. Workshop Enrolment Numbers are limited and places are reserved on a first come, first-served basis. Please note, there are no costs for staff, HDR and Honours students from University of Notre Dame.

To ensure you secure a place, please email Valentina Panci your registration form.
