The key question to be explored in the term paper is: How can the United Nations play a stronger role in developing a Green Economy (that is friendly to the environment)?

Global environmental problems have increased in number and intensity over the past decades, particularly due to rapid economic growth, and the processes of industrialization and globalization. As the economy globalized, so did environmental problems, affecting a number of countries - and some problems, like climate change, affecting ALL countries.

Probably, the only key stakeholder that has the capacity and networks to take up the challenge of developing good global environmental policies is the United Nations.

So what can the UN do to protect the environment, and at the same time, facilitate economic growth - by promoting a GREEN ECONOMY? What, in fact, is a green economy?! Explain your thoughts under three specific topics:

1. How can the United Nations do this specifically by "Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs)? Which MEAs? What problems need to be addressed? What kinds of stakeholders can help the UN to achieve this objective (and at what level)?

2. How can the United Nations do this specifically by implementing educational strategies? Targeted at which stakeholder? What kinds of stakeholders can help the UN to achieve this objective (and at what level)?

3. How can the United Nations do this specifically by supporting the development of environmental technologies? What kinds of technologies? Developed by whom?. What kinds of stakeholders can help the UN to achieve this objective (and at what level)?
