“A Unique Fundraising Event to Support our cause as part of the Joy of Giving Week”
Joy of Giving Week (JGW) is a special week which aims to bring people from all walks of life; together to get involved with a cause(s) of their choice. It will be a concerted effort across companies, celebrities, business heads, NGOs, schools, colleges, and the ‘general public, to promote “giving”. The week is slated from 2nd October to 8th October 2013, and we expect more than 1 crore Indians from all over India to participate and get engaged in “acts of giving”.
As a part of Joy of Giving Week, FoodforChange 2013 is an opportunity for NGOs to invite donors to an evening of music and gourmet food, all the while raising funds for the causes they care for!
The Purpose:
The main objective of this event was to introduce the concept of food with philanthropy in Ahmedabad, Gujarat and to bring various causes at one platform. This event is an opportunity for all to reach out to the larger public and tell the world them about their work. It’s for all of us to garner greater support for their cause.
Impact:
For the first time in Ahmedabad a unique event was launched where renowned NGOs of Ahmedabad gathered at one platform and 1500+ donors graced the event “FoodforChange” on October 6, 2013 at The Lawns, Gujarat Exhibition Center, Ahmedabad.
The event gave a platform for NGOs to raise funds at zero cost and showcase their activities/ products and at the same time build an alliance with other donors and guests.
BPA (Blind People Association) as part of their JGW hosted the FoodforChange 2013. BPA monitored, co-ordinated and executed the funds raised by NGOs and event as well.
The philanthropist by nature, Chairman & Managing Trustee- Dr. Nitin Shah of the Heart Foundation & Research Institute believed in this unique concept of philanthropy with food sponsored the event and also gave his commitment to sponsor next year’s FoodforChange 2014.
For this event the venue was given free of cost including entire set up of all food counters, stalls and seating arrangements courtesy by Gandhi Corporation. Mr. Hemubhai Gandhi from Gandhi Corporation gave his commitment to give the venue free of cost for next five years.
As their share of giving, the entire PR was handled by Simulations Public Affairs Management Services Pvt. Ltd and the outdoor media was supported by Akshar Advertising to make this event a celebration of ‘giving’. We got good coverage of our event of pre and post event in leading newspapers. We put up 18 hoardings and 5 LED advertisement promoting FoodforChange 2013.
This event showcases the culinary talent and skills of the 10 participating hotels/ as well as the work done by 19 NGOs in Ahmedabad. The evening also saw the dance performances by the children of BPA and Samvedana. The participating NGOs in FoodforChange 2013 - Jivdaya Charitable Trust, Samvedna, Sense International (India), Gujarat Stree Pragati Mandal (Utthan), Society for the Welfare of Children with Mental Retardation (SWMR), Blind People Association, Nitin Charitable Trust, Saath, Round Table India, Sambodh, All India Institute of Diabetes and Research, National Association of Blind- Idar and Patan, Vidyabharati Foundation (Savera), Rotary Club Supreme, Utthan, Antarnad Foundation, Dr. Jit Mehta Balshala Trust and YUVA Unstoppable.
The leading hotels of Ahmedabad who are voluntarily participating are Courtyard Marriott, The Grand Bhagwati, St. Laurn Hotels & Resorts, Havmor Restaurants, Cama Hotels, Gordhan Caterers, Hotel Silver Cloud, Rasna, AAVA and Jay Jalaram Dairy.
The NGOs raised around Rs. 33 lakhs from this event. Funds raised through this event will help educate a child, provide shelter to the elderly, subsidise medical costs for a poor patient, promote health care, rehabilitate a mentally ill homeless woman, support children with disability and reach out to several more such underprivileged people.
The leading corporate’s of Ahmedabad supported FoodforChange 2013 encouraging the NGOs. The corporate’s who participated were Wagh Bakri Tea Group, Harsha Engineers, Transformers & Rectifiers (India) Ltd., Groth Continental Manufacturing Pvt. Ltd., AIA Engineering Ltd., TRIPADA MULTICOURSE PVT LTD.
