A RESOLUTION honoring the Jeffersontown High School Chargers upon winning the 2006 KHSAA Boys' Sweet Sixteen Basketball Championship. WHEREAS, on March 18, 2006 at Rupp Arena in Lexington, the Jeffersontown Chargers defeated the Owensboro Apollo Eagles 61-48 to win the 2006 KHSAA Boys' Sweet Sixteen Basketball Championship; and WHEREAS, the triumph marked the Chargers' first state championship in any sport over the school's forty year history; and WHEREAS, J-town's season mark of 32 wins against 3 losses included a 12 game winning streak to open the season and an 18 game winning streak to close it; and WHEREAS, J-town had a bizarre road to the championship, including a five- overtime regular season triumph at Louisville Eastern and a regional final that was delayed two days because of a court order involving a dispute over the scheduling of officials; and WHEREAS, the resilient Chargers won the delayed regional final over Louisville Ballard just two days before they took the court in the Sweet Sixteen, eventually winning five games in six days to capture the crown; and WHEREAS, the Chargers were led on the court by the starting five of senior forwards Ceedrick Ware and Dale Easley, junior center Thomas Coleman, and guards Rashad Basey, a junior, and Nick Gagel, a sophomore; and

WHEREAS, other important contributors for the Chargers included senior Don Richardson, as well as Buddie Rice, Dean Pierrot, Rodney Trowel, Takorey McIntosh, Dallas Hardin. Dee Stanton, Jordan Reves, and Brandon Cason; and WHEREAS, the Chargers landed three players on the all-state tournament team: Rashad Basey, Thomas Coleman, who blocked 16 shots over the four games of the tournament, and Ceedrick Ware, who averaged 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in the tournament and was selected tournament MVP; and WHEREAS, J-town was directed by Head Coach Jeff Morrow, who has quietly

been building this program over his ten year tenure as coach, winning four district finals, and regional runner-up, and an All "A" regional championship prior to this breakout year; and WHEREAS, Coach Morrow was aided by assistants Bryan Terry, Daniel Reed, William Summers, Wes Maggard, Charlie Haydon, Jim Saltsman, and Scott Tandy, and WHEREAS, it is appropriate that this body take time to recognize the efforts and accomplishment of this outstanding group of young men who exemplify the best in dedication and teamwork, and who will forever be remembered in the storied annals of Kentucky high school basketball; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: Section 1. The members of this body, both individually and collectively, do hereby honor and commend the Jeffersontown High School Chargers, head coach Jeff Morrow, the assistant coaches and support staff, Athletic Director Jeff Edwards, and Principal Marsha Dohn upon the team's triumph in the 2006 KSHAA Boys' Sweet Sixteen Tournament, and express best wishes to the team and everyone associated with it for continued success in future endeavors. Section 2. The Clerk of the House of Representatives shall forward a copy of this
