We Will Be Viewing the Video <Sol Y Viento>. This Video Is About a Family Who Owns

Adapted from: [email protected] Las Mapuche Introduction We will be viewing the video <>. This video is about a family who owns a vineyard and their interpersonal relationships. The development of the story is woven throughout nine segments. There are several themes in this story. One of the major themes is the influence of the Mapuche tribe in Chile.

You will investigate who the Mapuche are, what their civilization was like, and what their importance was to the Hispanic/Spanish culture. You will follow the development of their civilization from the earliest beginnings to the present.

Task You have been invited to a Chilean town hall meeting at which the residents will be discussing the issue of the rights that should be afforded to the Mapuche population. You are the public attorney whose mission is to ensure that the Mapuche are treated equitably and fairly. You will need to understand their history, their struggles, and their identity in order to plead their case the most efficiently that you can. You gather up your associates and begin your research into this fascinating civilization. You will be developing a persuasive argument in favor of preserving the Mapuche culture on their own tribal lands. (This part may be done in English.) Remember, you must consider the impact of the Chilean point of view as well.
