About the Presenters

Her Honour Judge BeBe Chu, the Judge-in-charge of the Hong Kong Family Court. She has extensive knowledge and experiences in the Family Law of Hong Kong and had been the Chairperson of the Family Law Committee of the Law Society of Hong Kong. She is the member of the Steering Committee of the Pilot Scheme for the Reform of Ancillary Relief Procedure, and currently the Governor-at-Large and Judicial Member of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She is also the Chairperson of the Family Court Users Committee.

Professor Nadja Alexander, Professor Nadja Alexander, Professor of Law at City University Hong Kong, Adjunct Professor of Law at Murdoch University in Australia, and Honorary Research Fellow at University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. She has extensive experience as a mediation practitioner, trainer, author and consultant in Australia, Europe, the United States, South Africa and the Asia/Pacific region. Her books on negotiation and mediation are published internationally and her work has appeared in the English, German and Russian languages.

Professor Alexander is a multi award winning writer (2011 international) and teacher (1994, 1995, 1996 Queensland and 1997 Australia) and has been named one of Australia’s top five law academics by Business Woman Magazine.

Her mediation practice extends to commercial, organizational and intercultural disputes and a range of legal-political issues. Professor Alexander is engaged in the design of mediation policy and legislation in various countries and is a member of the Standards Commission of the International Mediation Institute, the National Alternative Dispute Resolution Advisory Council in Australia (NADRAC), the ADR Committee of the Law Council of Australia, and the Expert Advisory Committee on Mediation to the German Federal Government. In 2010 she was appointed to the Hong Kong Mediation Taskforce. About the Presenters (cont’d)

Ms Sou Chiam, Deputy Principal Government Counsel, an experienced lawyer who is also an accredited mediator in New Zealand and Australia. As the Head of the Human Rights Policy Unit and Legal Team at the New Zealand Human Rights Commission, she implemented the change in the handling of human rights complaints to a faster and more effective mediation model. She returned to Hong Kong in 2008 and was a Lecturer at the Chinese University of Hong Kong teaching Administrative Law and Mediation (as part of Alternative Dispute Resolution). In 2009, she participated in the University of Hong Kong SPACE Mediator Training course and Project Concord’s Handling Sexual Offences by Mediation training. She visited England to explore the use of mediation in Civil Justice Reforms, complaints to the Financial Services Ombudsman, community and commercial disputes and also legal aid funding for mediation. As the Secretary to the Working Group on Mediation chaired by the Secretary for Justice, she worked on the Report of the Working Group and its recommendations to promote a greater use of mediation in Hong Kong. She qualified as a barrister in Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Mr Patrick Chung Kwok Shing, Mediation Services Coordinator of the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society. He is an experienced family mediation supervisor and social worker in the Society. He has extensive experiences in mediation and marital casework, supervision work on mediation and mediation training. He conducted live supervision of Family Mediation for over 14 trainees including lawyers. He has coached Family Mediation Training Courses approved by the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre and the Law Society of Hong Kong since 2009.

Mrs. Ruth, Wong Chan Tsz Ying, Mediation Services Coordinator of the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society. She is an experienced family mediation supervisor and social worker in the Society. She has extensive experiences in mediation and marital casework, supervision work on mediation and mediation training. She conducted live supervision of Family Mediation for over 80 trainees including more than 30 lawyers. She has coached over ten Family Mediation Training Courses approved by the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre and the Law Society of Hong Kong since 2000. She was a member of Accreditation and Training Subgroup under Department of Justice in 2009, and has been a current Committee Member of Hong Kong Mediation Council since 2009.
