A RESOLUTION Adjourning the House of Representatives in Loving Memory and Honor of Our

A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of our friend and former colleague, Representative Raymond Overstreet. WHEREAS, Raymond Overstreet was born in Casey County on December 3, 1942, the son of the late Roy Lee and Clyda Hatfield Overstreet; and WHEREAS, Representative Overstreet was a graduate of Berea College and the University of Kentucky College of Law; and WHEREAS, Representative Overstreet served his nation admirably as a member of the United States Marine Corps before returning to his community as a criminal defense attorney; and WHEREAS, Representative Overstreet was actively involved in the betterment of his community and his Commonwealth, furthering his ideals as a member of the Kiwanis, Jaycees, Elks, Craftsman Masonic Lodge #722, the Kentucky Bar Association, and the Board of Directors of Monticello Bank; and WHEREAS, Representative Overstreet was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Liberty; and WHEREAS, Representative Overstreet was first elected to this Honorable Body in 1971, serving the people of the 52nd District with distinction for 22 years, including one term as the Minority Whip; and WHEREAS, Representative Overstreet was duly noted during his service in the

General Assembly for his incredible wit, charm, and good humor, personality traits that he used to further his strongly held beliefs, including his support of legislation to affirm the right to carry concealed-weapons (which became known as Representative Overstreet and a colleague's "gunslinger bill"); and WHEREAS, Representative Overstreet was recognized for his fruitful endeavors by being given several honors, including Kentucky Colonel, Outstanding Young Men in America, Who's Who in American Politics, and Personalities of the South; and WHEREAS, Representative Overstreet was above all devoted to his beloved wife,

Mary Ashby Overstreet, and to their family; and WHEREAS, Representative Overstreet was the loving father of Shawnna Wilkins and adoring grandfather of Austin Robert Wilkins; and WHEREAS, Representative Overstreet was also the loyal brother of Russell Overstreet, Geneva Hagy, Ethel Johnson, Ruth Anderson, Lecta Tucker, the late Edgar Overstreet, the late Nellie Emerson, and the late Montie Tarter; and WHEREAS, this Honorable Body was saddened to learn of the passing of Representative Overstreet on January 9, 2011, and joins his family, friends, and community in mourning his loss; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The members of the House of Representatives, both individually and collectively, express their heartfelt sense of sorrow and their condolences to the family, friends, and community of Representative Raymond Overstreet.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of our friend and former colleague, Representative Raymond Overstreet.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mary Ashby Overstreet, 4375 East Kentucky 70, Liberty, Kentucky 42539.
