Professional Career

01/11 – 03/12 Welthungerhilfe (WHH)/ German Agro Action Program Coordinator of all WHH-projects in Haiti and Dominican Republic (about 20) including Emergency Projects to fight the cholera epidemic, projects in the aftermath of the January 2010 earthquake and Rural Development Projects including watershed management and irrigation. 03/08 – 12/10 GFA Consulting Group Team Leader/Project Manager of a bi-national project of the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) in Dominican Republic and Haiti (4 local experts, 10 administrative and support staff) Project: Poverty reduction through sustainable use of natural resources in the cross-border area of the upper watershed of the Artibonito River. 02/03-12/06 GFA Terra Systems GmbH (until 10/04), GOPA mbH (since 11/04) Co-Director (International Project Manager) of an EU-Project in Haiti Project „Programme de Développement Rural dans le Centre et Sud d’Haïti“ (PDR) financed by the European Union (EU) The project has achieved the following results  Increase of the agricultural production according to the preferences of the target group (rural population of the Département du Sud), in the fields of animal production (goats, cattle), fisheries, irrigation systems and rural infrastructure as well as natural resource management/watershed management.  Improvement of processing and marketing of agricultural products  Reinforcement of the local structures of the Ministry of Agriculture by establishing participative rural development policies.  Improves involvement of grass-root groups (farmers, fishermen, small enterprises) and NGOs in the identification, selection and implementation of development measures as well as the strengthening of regional fora. Main task of the ”Co-Director” was the co-management of the project, together with the Haitian “Régisseur” (national Project Manager). The project did not implement the development measures itself, but it made use of local operators, mostly NGOs. The work of the project staff was limited to planning, selection of development measures, selection and contracting of operators as well as monitoring and evaluation.

03/99-06/02 German Technical Co-operation (GTZ), GmbH Chief Technical Advisor Project: Rural Infrastructure and Community Development (RICD) in the North- western region of Bangladesh The aim of the project was the sustainable creation of income opportunities for landless people and ultra-smallholders (more than 50% women). Tasks: advice on group formation (village groups and federations), selection and design of measures to be implemented (agriculture, livestock, processing, marketing, revolving funds), introduction of gender consciousness, setting up of an impact-monitoring and frequent meditation between the implementing Government Agency (LGED) and the implementing NGO.

04/93-02/99 German Technical Co-operation (GTZ), GmbH Team Leader/Project Manager (3 long term experts, up to 55 local GTZ staff) Project: Integrated Rural Development Programme, Mardan (IRDP- Mardan), Pakistan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, formerly NWFP)

Main tasks: Team Management/staff management, project planning, monitoring, in-charge of the German contribution to the programme

Fields of activities of the programme: Together with the Local Government staff (15 professionals), the following components were implemented in a highly participatory way:  Support to village self-help groups (VG)  Support to village based NGOs  Savings & credit programme, support for internal lending of VG, village development fund  Women programme with 'Skill training' and 'literacy programme'  Infrastructure (roads, drinking water, women centres, irrigation, etc.)  Female health component  Agriculture, Agro-forestry/NRM, livestock  Income generating activities The project area was situated in one of the most backward and conservative areas of Pakistan. The monitoring unit was implemented under the direct guidance of the Team Leader.

04/93-02/99 Together with the above assignment: GTZ-CTA for the financial contribution of GTZ to the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP). Main tasks: Overall supervision of the activities and representation of GTZ in the Donor Liaison Group for AKRSP.
