Dear Families of 3-C,

This marks the beginning of another busy week in room 36! We are happy to be celebrating both Red Ribbon Week and Jump Rope for Heart during this week. Jump Rope for Heart will take place tomorrow morning. Please make sure that your child comes to school in sneakers and warm athletic clothes so that s/he is able to participate in this wonderful event .

In math, the children will continue to work on solving number stories throughout the week. The students were introduced to multi-step number stories today. While solving number stories, it is extremely important for the children to take their time in determining what operation(s) to use to answer the question.

In reading, we are continuing to learn how to make strong inferences as we read. The children have learned that they can make an inference about why a character makes a certain choice, how a character feels about a situation, and to record a trait that describes the character’s personality. Our first unit of study for reading will come to an end on Thursday.

In writing, the children learned how to include a life lesson to make the end of their personal narratives strong. We will move onto revising and editing out work. By the end of the week, the children will pick the personal narrative that they will publish.

I had a wonderful time meeting with many of you yesterday and am excited for my next set of parent-teacher conferences in November! I also look forward to seeing many of you at Community Technology Night (10/27 from 6:30-8:30 @ Bogert in the Bogert Gym/Multi-Purpose Room). I hope everyone has a fantastic week!

Best,

Cayla Casey
