Role Description

Role: Vessels Engineer Directorate: Integrated Transport Reports to: Marine Superintendent

Post No. Service: Asset Management Supervises: No one

Grade: SCP 20-23

Primary Purpose: To operate the engine room and ancillary equipment and carry out maintenance on the Vessels. To work as part of a crew so that the Mersey Ferries Vessels operations work effectively and efficiently thus reliability generating customer satisfaction.

Outcome Delivered Through

Assets are used  Implementation of all planned preventative maintenance systems onboard Mersey Ferries. efficiently and  Monitoring of vessels performance through fault action request forms and engineering log sheets. effectively to deliver  Liaise with engineering management and external partners in connection with vessels operations and business objective maintenance.  Deputise for the Captain in their absence in terms of seniority (not pilot the vessel).  Carry out reactive maintenance as necessary.  Carry out periodic checks in line with maintenance plans.

Satisfied Customers  Reliability of vessels and ancillary equipment.  Meeting the highest standards of customer expectations in response and repair.  Monitoring of contractors and assets to improve the customer experience and to deliver best value.  Ensure the cleanliness of the vessel is maintained by ensuring the removal of all waste in accordance with all appropriate legislation and procedures.

Team  Effective performance management.  Encouraging a learning culture.  Attending L&D programmes as necessary for the role. Safe Services and  Ensure all vessels are operating in accordance with all appropriate legislation and in-line with Company Workplace Policy.  Liaise with MCA Surveyors for all onboard audits and inspections.  Responsible for H&S issues in relation to all plant and machinery onboard the vessels.

Sustainable Services  Ensuring that all onboard systems and equipment is functioning correctly and efficiently.  Control of all grey water fresh water and marine gas oil onboard.  Compliance to Merseytravel’s ISO 14001 environmental systems.

Services and  Demonstration of an appropriate level of knowledge of equality legislation and an appreciation of how it workplace which are affects Marine Engineering. open and accessible  Ensuring that all relevant onboard systems and equipment is functioning correctly. to all members of the community

 Time served marine fitter or 4th Engineers Certificate of Competency.  Knowledge and awareness of all Health & Safety legislation.  Commitment to maintaining Mersey Ferries assets to the highest standards.  Current full UK driving licence.

Desirable Criteria

 Knowledge of the operation of planned maintenance systems.  Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems.  Knowledge of MCA Operational requirements.  Knowledge of on board electrical systems and fault finding techniques.
