MAY PLACE ON SCHOOL OR DISTRICT LETTERHEAD

This week your student had a college and career advising session with (insert name) from our community (or insert business name) to discuss your student’s college and career goals. During the session, they talked about what your student can be doing to prepare for their future using the:

1. Individual Learning Plan (ILP). Kentucky students use multiple components in this online college and career planning tool in grades 6-12. Completion of the ILP is a graduation requirement and is an important process to guide a student to make good decisions regarding their education. Each student has completed the Career Matchmaker assessment and has identified college and career goals in the ILP. (For more information on the ILP go to: http://www.education.ky.gov/JumpTo/?jump=ILPParent )

2. Kentucky administers a high school readiness examination in grade 8, a college readiness examination in grade 10 and the ACT college admissions and placement examination in grade 11. These examinations include: Kprep and local assessments. Your student’s scores help him/her to identify the skills/knowledge needed to be best prepared for life after high school. For more information on EPAS go to: http://www.education.ky.gov/JumpTo/?jump=EPASAct

3. Course of Study: What courses does the student plan to take for the remainder of their K-12 experience? Do the courses align with the student’s career interests? In other words, is your student taking the courses that are relevant to their long term plans?

The goal of this meeting was to reinforce the importance of students taking an active role in planning for life after high school. Please continue to talk with your child about their plans, encourage them to do well in school and to complete the steps that will lead to college/career success.

Also, please take some time to log onto your student’s ILP to gain a better understanding of the path they are pursuing. The ILP can be accessed at www.careercruising.com/ilp. Every parent has access to their student’s ILP with a unique username and password. Call (insert name) at (insert phone number) to be given your access information.

Thank you for the support you provide your child as they prepare for their future, which is critical to ensuring they graduate from high school college/career ready.

Sincerely,
