Environmental Issues Concerns Every Facet of Industry, and Irving Tissue Toronto Shares

Irving Tissue Toronto is a key component in the Irving group of companies; this site was purchased in 2001 and has been a major contributor to the success of the reintroduction of the quality tissue brand product known as Royale. The site has a long history in the region, dating back to the late 1920’s and has produced quality Bathroom and Facial tissue as well as paper towel for generations of Canadians. The plant also produces Majesta paper products as well as a number of private label products for Canadian and export markets, this is truly a local success story.

Irving Tissue cares about the environment. It is our commitment – and our challenge – to use and manage our natural resources today, while protecting and maintaining them for future generations. As part of our commitment to excellence in all aspects of our business endeavours, we will be concerned, responsible citizens acting in the best interests of the people and communities in which we work..

To that end we will do everything within our power to advance the cause of environmental protection, and to minimize environmental damage wherever we operate.

We will do our utmost to manage our natural resources to fill present needs without sacrificing the needs of the future.

We will continue to invest in research to determine new and better ways to manage our businesses, to solve ecological problems, to reduce waste, and to improve use of our resources; and we will monitor our progress on environmental matters.

We will educate our own employees about environmental issues and about our own policies, and encourage them to become environmental advocates.

We will cooperate with efforts to raise public awareness about environmental issues, and in relation to our own business, we will initiate them.

We will participate fully in opportunities to work with government to shape policy concerning the environment. Through these efforts, Irving Forest Products will play a vital role in using our resources to provide economic opportunity for today’s generations to come. Environmental issues concerns every facet of industry, and Irving Tissue Toronto shares those concerns with industry and our neighbors. When the plant was purchased in 2001 the leadership team identified the use of Sulfuric Acid in the manufacturing process as one of the single biggest concerns, a spill could be catastrophic for employees, our neighbors, and most importantly the surrounding environment. Success came early in 2004, sulfuric acid was eliminated from the processes and removed from the site; this was accomplished through extensive research and investment in the Toronto Plant.

The pulp for the Toronto Plant is supplied by J.D. Irving Limited of New Brunswick, our responsibility to the environment starts there. Over 18 million saplings are grown and planted every year as part of our forestry restoration effort, responsible business practices begin at our source.

Irving Tissue has invested a great deal in the Toronto Plant, through exterior upgrades, and new equipment. It is our commitment to the community, our employees, and the future of our business.

The safety of our employees is always at the forefront and Irving Tissue Toronto has been a leader in our industry for a number of years.
