(CALEA), 19 on March 24, 2012; and 20 21 Whereas, CALEA was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority 22 through the joint efforts of law enforcement’s major executive 23 associations; and 24 25 Whereas, its purpose is to improve the delivery of public safety 26 services, primarily by maintaining a body of standards covering a 27 wide range of uptodate public safety initiatives, establishing and 28 administering an accreditation process, and recognizing 29 professional excellence; and 30 31 Whereas, its standards require an agency to develop a 32 comprehensive, wellthoughtout, uniform set of written directives; 33 provide the necessary reports and analyses a CEO needs to make 34 factbased, informed management decisions; and put in place a 35 preparedness program for immediate addressing of critical 36 incidents; and 37 38 Whereas, these measures are a means for developing or improving 39 an agency’s relationship with the community. They also strengthen 40 an agency’s accountability, possibly limit its liability and risk 41 exposure, and facilitate its pursuit of professional excellence; and 42

[1422] 2 1 Whereas, in earning this prestigious accreditation, the Lexington 2 Police Department has voluntarily demonstrated its commitment to 3 excellence in law enforcement. Grateful for this consistent 4 dedication, the Senate salutes the agency on behalf of the people of 5 South Carolina. Now, therefore, 6 7 Be it resolved by the Senate: 8 9 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, 10 commend and congratulate the Lexington Police Department on 11 being recertified by the Commission on Accreditation for Law 12 Enforcement Agencies, Inc. 13 14 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to 15 the Lexington Police Department. 16 XX 17
