He married Elizabeth (Swartz) Schwartz 07 Feb 1892 in Lincoln, Lancaster Co, Nebraska, daughter of Johann Schwartz and Kristina Krieger. She was born 07 Mar 1870 in Norka Colony, Saratov, Russia, and died 08 Nov 1956 in Bridgeport, Nebraska.

Notes for Heinrich K (not related yet) Brehm, Sr.: 1. Oct 2001: From Cynthia Steusloff Heinrich was her great great grandfather Paul was her great grand father. See email by Christine/Jay Steusloff/dtd 9/6/2001. May 2003: From Kathy Michal Frisbie Maria was her grand mother. See email from Kathy dtd May 2003. 2. All information on Henry's death certificate is as follows: County of death: Buffalo; City: Kearney; died at St. Luke's Hospital; male, white, married; he was born December 15, 1867; age at death 49 years 11 months 16 days; occupation was farmer; informant was Mrs. H.K. Brehm address: Kearney, Nebr. Date of death was December 1, 1917. Place of burial: Lincoln, Nebraska, date of burial December 3, 1917; undertaker A.G. Bower, address: Kearney.

One note: on the entire death certificate Brehm was incorrectly spelled Brehn. It also lists his parents (no names) as being born in Germany. Although it is 'possible' that they were born in Germany and not Russia it is doubtful. My grandmother always insisted that her family came from Russia along with my grandfather's family and Henry's wife (Elizabeth)'s death certificate does say that she was born in Norka, Russia. After Henry's death she ended up in Scottsbluff, Neb. Unfortunately, Henry's death certificate does not name a township or village. They did live in Lincoln, that is where their last child was born, but I cannot imagine why Elizabeth would list her address as Kearney if they were still living in Lincoln.

4. May 2003: Information from Kathy Frisbie via email. My great great grandparents were Henry K. Brehm and Elizabeth Swartz Brehm. They lived in Lincoln, Nebraska and had 8 children that I know of: 4 sons, Edward, Paul, John, and Henry; 4 daughters, Christina, Flora, Frieda and Marie. After Henry died, Elizabeth remarried to a man named Schoneman. After he died, she came to live with my grandparents, Marie and George Libsack on their farm in Bayard, Nebraska. 5. Henry K. Brehm used to work on the railroads and the story goes that he came home from work one really hot day and was very thirsty. He drank some very cold water very fast and died. 6. Burial: Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln, Nebraska

May 2003: "My Mom (Betty Libsack Michal) also has a letter from the Emmanuel Reformed Church in Lincoln, NE that was with Grandma Marie's birth certificate. The signee was Rev. J. H. Wacker and he referred to Grandma Marie's mother as Elizabeth Hahn. That is the first time I have ever heard that name but maybe it can help you." May 2003: Information from Kathy Frisbie via email: JOHN: All I know about John is that he ran away from home as a very young man and no one knows where he went to or where he is now. Grandma always wanted to know what happened to her brother. He ran away after Elizabeth married Mr. Schoneman. I understand that he was not a very nice man.

Notes for Frieda Brehm: May 2003: Information from Kathy Frisbie via email: Frieda (or Frida or Freida) married Manuel Kramer. Last I knew about them they lived in Portland, Or. Frieda was born April 21, 1905, and died January, 1985. The only Manuel Kramer I could find on the index was born on Sept. 22, 1896 and died August 4, 1992.

Notes for Christina Brehm: May 2003: Information from Kathy Frisbie via email: Christine married Roy Lawrence and when he died, she remarried Will Hedrick. I cannot find the birth and death dates for Christine, but I do know she died in Whittier, CA. I know that one of her children, Robert Lawrence, was killed in a one-car automobile accident. I will have to ask my Mom about the other ones.

May 2003: Information from Kathy Frisbie via email: MARIA (or Marie as we knew her) Magdalena (my grandmother) was born on Sept. 26, 1907 and died Jan. 1996. She married George Libsack on June 21, 1924. He was born Jun 8, 1902 and died Feb. 1988. They had three children: Betty Jane, born Feb. 13, 1926, Darlene Mae born Jan 3, 1933 and Leonard George, born July 9, 1929. He died March 1979. Darlene married Rhiney Kraus and they had three children, Ricky Leroy, Sandra and Lori Ann. Darlene and Rhiney got divorced and she later married Paul Mickler. They now live in Gilbertown, Alabama. Uncle Rhiney died a short time ago in NE. Betty married Melvin Michal and they had three children, Kathleen Marie (1947), Cynthia Louise (1949) and Randall Dean (1960). Melvin was born July 15, 1923, and died May 8, 1999. Leonard married Elvira Deines and they had three children, Larry, Gary and Nancy. Aunt Elvira never remarried after Uncle Leonard died.

Notes for Edward Brehm: 1. May 2003: Information from Kathy Frisbie via email. Edward married a lady named Eva and they had 5 children, Larry, Sandra, Loretta, Frances and Pam. The only one that I know the whereabouts of is Frances. She married Richard Meter and they live in Minatare, Neb. Uncle Ed was born July 9, 1910, and died March 1982 in Minatare, NE. Ed and Eva lived most of their lives in Minatare on a farm halfway between Scottsbluff and Bayard. Aunt Eva (as I called them) was born Dec. 13, 1915 and died Sept. 10, 1999 in Alliance NE. 2. 9. Flora2 Brehm (Heinrich K (not related yet)1) was born 29 Jul 1914 in Kearney, Buffalo, Nebraska, and died 13 Feb 1998 in Minatare, Nebraska. She married Jake Rein 15 Jul 1933 in Harrisburg, Nebraska. He was born 17 Apr 1915 in Gering, Nebraska, and died 21 Jun 2005 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

Notes for Flora Brehm: May 2003: Information from Kathy Frisbie via email: FLORA married Jake Rein and they lived in Minatare most of their lives. I can't think of their children's names right now but I can call my Mom tomorrow and find out. Flora was born July 29, 1914, and died Feb. 13, 1998. I think Jake is still alive. At least he is not on the SS Death Index.

His wife Flora; son Kenny Rein, grandson Michael Maser; brother George Rein and sisters Esther Stricker and Helen Bruntz preceded him in death.

Lucille I. Batt, 82, of Denver died Jan. 19 in Thorton. Services were Jan. 23, with burial at Crown Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Batt ws born in Berthoud on Oct. 30, 1917. She married Roland Batt, 1933. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband; sons Allan of New Mexico and Stan of Aurora; brothers Don Brehm of Thornton and Bud Brehm of Arvada; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Notes for Donald Paul Brehm: I do not know when Donald was married. I have put in 'misc' years so the spouses sort in the order we think he was married. We do not know the wife is the mother of the children.

14. Walter3 Brehm (Paul2, Heinrich K (not related yet)1) was born 1922 in Denver, Colorado, and died 16 Jun 1944. He married Maxine Taylor. She was born Abt. 1922.

Notes for Walter Brehm: May 2003: Information from Kathy Frisbie via email: "PAUL: lived in Denver. All I know about him is that his son Walter was killed in WWII, on Okinawa, I think" Jun 2010: Received an email from Terry Jurado with information on his wife Erica Brehms line. My wife is the granddaughter of Private First Class Walter J. Brehm, United States Marine Corps. On June 16, 1944 Pvt. Brehm was killed in action while engaging the enemy on the pacific island of Saipan. On or about January 5, 1945, Pvt. Brehm was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross. My father-in-law, Walter J. Brehm Jr. was born March 9, 1944 making him little more than three months old at the time his father sacrificed his life for our country. My father-in-law was the only child of Pvt. Brehm. Approximately three years after Pvt. Brehm was killed my father-in-law was orphaned when his mother was killed in a tragic accident.

Jul 2010: Received an email from Kathy Frisbie in answer to Terry Jurado's questions. "The family story is that when her Uncle Paul (Brehm) was offered the medal and citation posthumously he said that the government could keep their medal unless they could give him his son back. He refused to take it. We don't know if he accepted it later or not, or if any other family member accepted it.." "Custody of Walter Jr. was taken by his mother's parents to raise him and never heard of him again. Part of an obit: Walter's wife's name was Maxine Taylor. Walter was born in Denver in 1922. They had one child, Walter Jr. Walter Brehm Sr was buried in Crown Point Cemetery. He was survived by his parents Paul and Elizabeth Brehm, Mrs. R.H. Batt (Lucille) and 4 brothers - Roland, Donald, Albert and Wilbert. They have all passed on."

She married Melvin John Michal 03 Dec 1944 in Bayard, Nebraska, son of John Michal and Emma Rohrick. He was born 15 Jul 1923 in Bayard, Nebraska, and died 08 May 1999 in Spring Valley, California.

Notes for Darlene Mae Libsack: From Kathy Michal Frisbie Jul 2003: There is a note in there from my Aunt Darlene (Mom's sister) that says "when Mom (Marie Brehm) was about 10 or 11, the family moved to Kearney, Ne. One day Henry came home from work and wasn't feeling well. He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital. While he was in the hospital, Elizabeth worked at "1733 ranch". After Henry died, Elizabeth moved the family back to Lincoln, where Henry's brother, Nick, helped take care of them. Elizabeth then married Philip Schoneman and moved to Scottsbluff, Co."
