October 2, 2004 - Deer Hunters Like Barnes’ Triple-Shock X-Bullet
Since its introduction in 2003, the Barnes Triple- Shock X-Bullet–an improved version of the famed X-Bullet - has proven deadly on a variety of both thin-skinned and heavy–bodied animals. It has accounted for thousands of North American deer, elk and antelope. Many African PHs also depend on this bullet for its high weight retention and the deep- driving dependability needed for hunting tough, Clair Rees recently killed this New Mexico pronghorn dangerous game. with a 120-grain Triple-Shock X-Bullet from a 7mm- 08 Remington rifle The buck was shot at 325 yards, and died on the spot. This 100-percent copper bullet has a specially designed cavity that begins opening on contact. Responding to hydraulic force, the bullet quickly expands to twice its original diameter as four copper petals fold back from the nose. These razor-edged petals slice through flesh and vital organs.
The bullet penetrates so deeply it usually exits the animal’s far side, transmitting energy all along its path. It works exceptionally well for those rear-angled raking shots hunters sometimes have to make. Even after encountering heavy bone, the Triple- Shock X-Bullet typically retains 100 percent of its original weight.
Multiple rings cut into the Triple-Shock X-Bullet’s circumference set it apart from other all-copper X-Bullets. These rings relieve pressure as the bullet passes through the bore, allowing higher velocities and virtually eliminating copper fouling. Customers report superb accuracy.
“I’ve used Barnes’ Triple-Shock bullets to take a mule deer in Montana, a large whitetail in Saskatchewan and a New Mexico pronghorn buck,” says outdoor writer Clair Rees. “All were instant one-shot kills. The bullets caused massive internal damage before exiting, and the animals died on the spot as though struck by lightning. I’ve never seen deadlier performance on game. Triple-Shock bullets delivered minute- of-angle accuracy in all three rifles used on these hunts.”
