Bean r/b his Family FROM FR. DAN’S DESK… Its not very often that I deal with “serious” subjects in my column, but every once in a while, it becomes important and necessary! This is also something I do not want to address “from the Altar or Pulpit”, due to its sensitive nature and the many children we have at Mass each week. God-willing, what I am about to talk about will not be an issue by the time our children become adults! The issue I want to speak about is what we have been hearing about in the last several weeks regarding the organization called “Planned Parenthood” and the selling of baby body parts from aborted babies. I hope and pray you were as horrified as I was to read about what has come to light regarding the mission of Planned Parenthood and their support of such acts. Sadly, abortion has been the law of the land” for many years now, but as a “people of life”, we pray that a new awareness might come to those who support abortion. The recent videos which have been made public about the leadership of Planned Parenthood and their open discussion of these horrific acts, may, I pray be such an occasion to get the attention of all – even pro-abortion supporters. Defense has been made by Planned Parenthood that they do other “good things” like make health care affordable for woman. This can lead to a discussion of “relativism” which seeks to mask the true horrors of abortion which have now been made public, in the name of other good effects! It’s hard to believe that we live in a country where such acts are legal & moreover that our tax dollars currently support such actions! That needs to be the “wake-up call” for all of us! The following statement is from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishop’s Pro–Life Committee: “The breaking news about Planned Parenthood’s trafficking in the body parts of aborted children has attracted many appalled reactions, and rightly so. PP’s medical director was caught on video, discoursing callously over lunch about adapting the killing procedure to obtain the “intact” organs that researchers want. More such videos are being released that will deserve a response not least, perhaps, by Congress”. Also, Cardinal Seán O’Malley, OFM Cap., Archbishop of Boston and Chairman of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), responded, July 29, to recent videos showing leaders from Planned Parenthood discussing the provision of fetal organs, tissues, and body parts from their abortion clinics. The full text of Cardinal O’Malley’s statement follows: “Pope Francis has called abortion the product of a “widespread mentality of profit, the throwaway culture, which has today enslaved the hearts and minds of so many.” The recent stories concerning Planned Parenthood direct our attention to two larger issues involving many institutions in our society. The first is abortion itself: a direct attack on human life in its most vulnerable condition. The second is the now standard practice of obtaining fetal organs and tissues through abortion. Both actions fail to respect the humanity & dignity of human life. This fact should be the center of attention in the present public controversy”. My friends, in this time, so many assaults are being volleyed at those who embrace a moral, ethical, not to mention religious life, that it is hard for us to keep up with the pace of these assaults! Our Church teaches us to be good citizens of our world as well as good citizens of the Kingdom of God, and be willing to boldly stand up and speak out on what we see and hear. I hope that you, like me, will be courageous in bringing up these topics among family, friends and co-workers, and be unafraid to express your disdain for such acts. As we are reminded by the words of Mother Theresa of Calcutta – “Christ has no hands or feet (or mouth) in this world, other than ours”. Jesus challenged the sin in his own time and culture, and we need to be bold in doing the same in ours! May God bless our words & actions with courage and boldness, as well as with kindness!

0914 3 AUGUST 9, 2015 NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME On a much more upbeat note - where evil prevails, goodness prevails all the more! I’m happy to say that our Parishioner – Cheryl Lafreniere, is scheduled for her long awaited kidney transplant this Tuesday. Cheryl has been scheduled a few times before for the operation and it has fallen through. Cheryl is blessed to have a good friend, Amy, who is donating a kidney so that this gift to Cheryl can be made. “No greater gift is there, than to lay down one’s life for a friend” (John 15:13). Amy and all who donate kidneys are wonderful friends in our lives! I’ve learned a great deal about kidney problems and transplants from Cheryl, and I know that if the transplant is successful it will eliminate her 4 hour, 3 day a week sessions at dialysis, and improve the overall quality of her life! Please remember Cheryl in your prayers on Tuesday, and all who undergo serious surgeries! God Bless, Fr. Dan
