Preface:
In May 2006 FEC visited the Cibus Parma fair/Italy. Mr. Franco Boni the President of Fiere Di Parma welcomed the idea of holding a Parma Fair in Egypt. As a result in June 2006 Mr. Boni visited Egypt to explore the possibilities of organizing an Egyptian Fair with an Italian Management and Expertise under the name of Egypt- Parma Fair, and has met with Eng. Tarek Tawfik the chairman of the FEC and H.E. Rachid Mohammed Rachid the Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry.
During Mr. Boni’s visit to Egypt, he attended the Egypt Furnix Exhibition and shortly a letter of intent was agreed upon between both parties.
The Food Export Council (FEC) has invited Agricultural Export Council (AEC) to join forces in the preparation of the arrangement of the fair, therefore a committee was formed to discuss and manage all the necessary activities for the above mentioned event in their native and non-native countries.
A letter of collaboration was drafted in that sense for the chairman of both councils to sign, also a letter to IMC to block a tentative budget of three million Euros from the agro-food funds for the event is in process.
Fiere Di Parma, in force of its specific know-how intends to:
1. Organize an “Egypt Day” during Cibus Tech in October 2007 in Parma on the occasion of the visit organized by the Food Export Council of the Egyptian institutional and business delegation to Milc, Multitecno, Tecnoconserve;
2. Organize in Egypt in collaboration with the Egyptian counterpart an international fair on fresh products, agro food industry and agriculture;
3. Assist in reaching a collaboration agreement between Parma and Cairo Universities to allow Egyptian students to access to a highly specialized master in agro-food, according to their specific interest;
4. Assist in reaching a collaboration agreement between Stazione Sperimentale delle Conserve Alimentari and Cairo Universities or any specialized Research Institute in manufacture, control and food safety for tomato or any other type of vegetable;
5. Assist in reaching an agreement between Alma Mater (International High School of Cuisine) and similar Egyptian School of Haute Cuisine to allow Egyptian Chefs to attend a Master in Italian Haute Cuisine; 6. Organize a two days conference in Cairo about food safety, traceability, packaging and logistics;
7. Assist the Food Export Council in giving Fiere Di Parma the consultancy job to design and realize the new Cairo Exhibition Centre;
8. Fiere di Parma is also willing to organize in their exhibition centers training stages for the Egyptian executives and directors of the new Cairo Exhibition Centre in collaboration with the Egyptian Counterparts;
Further to the Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding event which took place at Gezira Sofitel on the 3rd of September 2007 between Egypt and Italy; represented by Fiere di Parma and the Food Export Council, Bari Fiera Del Levante and the Agricultural Export Council, it was agreed that an Egyptian delegation of 43 companies combining the largest 22 manufacturers in the Food Sector, and 20 manufacturers of the Agricultural Sector, will visit Italy to participate in Parma/Cibus- Tec Fair from the 17th – 20th of October 2007, and Bari International Trade Fair from the 18th – 21st of October 2007 aiming at:
1. Defining the general conditions of the signed MOU 2. Gathering information about the Italian market 3. Observing the newest technology available for Food and Agricultural processing 4. Cooperating with the Italian side for their mutual benefits and also for the benefit of the Mediterranean Region
The Food Sector delegation in Parma and the Agro Sector delegation in Bari had several meetings with the Italian companies in the same fields on the latest technology available for improving the Food and Agricultural processing to increase the Egyptian exports to the world.
At Fiere di Parma and Fiera Del Levante Eng. Tarek Tawfik the chairman of the Food Export Council, and Mr. Sherif Beltagy the chairman of HEIA have accompanied the Egyptian delegation.
H.E. Amin Abaza the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation of Egypt has honored the Egyptian Delegation with his presence at both Fairs.
