Subject: IEEE P802.15 and the 15th meeting of the ETSI Project BRAN

Dear Mr. Khun-Jush,

Per our initial IEEE P802.15 Working Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) Liaison Letter dated June 10, 1999, and your up and coming 15th meeting of the ETSI Project BRAN. We have learned through our IEEE members that that there is a need for a short plenary for the Bluetooth specifications currently being discussed between Bluetooth community and ETSI. Also, that a representative from Bluetooth might be invited to give an overview on this system. We would also be interested in attending.

As you may know during a recent Bluetooth Special Interest Group liaison to the IEEE P802.15 Working Group for WPANs we received the following comments:

"Additionally the Bluetooth SIG is currently in discussions with ETSI to develop a world-wide standard based on Bluetooth that covers the entire Bluetooth capabilities stack. If these discussions go forward, then the Bluetooth SIG would like ETSI and IEEE coordinates their efforts so that both standards interoperate." Jim Kardach, Intel & BSIG Chair, 15Jul99

Once the date for this short plenary and the availability of the Bluetooth representative are known we would be interested in discussing how we can provide assistance to the ETSI Project BRAN members in understanding the IEEE interests.

The IEEE 802.15 Working Group for WPANs appreciates your interest and we look forward learning more about this up and coming meeting and how we can help the ETSI Project BRAN members

Yours sincerely,

Robert F. Heile Chairman, IEEE 802.15 Working Group for WPANs cc: Jim Carlo, Ian Gifford, Jim Kardach, Kjell Strandberg, File
